Export issues Engine DJ

Ok so here is the issues that I experience the last couple of weeks!

I know that this issue has been mentioned many times but maybe someone got a fix or a solution!

All my usbs are FAT32 (Sandisk Extreme Pro 256 and Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD 1T and couple of other smaller size USBs).

I use 2 usbs since one is for Denon gear and one is for Pioneer. On my SSD I have both libraries exported so the usbs act as backup. On both usbs is the exact replica of both playlist , Engine DJ and Rekorbox.

Let’s move on to the issue now!

When I create a new folder and let’s say I add an X number of tracks ( I’ve tried also with different amount of tracks), on Rekordbox when I finish exporting , everything is there, meaning the whole collection that I have on my PC is also replicated on my USB or SSD. Now, when I do the exact same process on Engine (latest version), it shows me the export is completed but I see only what I already had. No new folders that I created or anything newly added! How I solve it? I have to format my USB and re export everything (and that takes a lot of time that I don’t have). Now, I’ve tried that with different USBs, same goes to my SSD. Same thing, export completed , the existing playlist and folders are there, nothing newly added! The whole process takes around less than 30 seconds! Yes, restarting Engine, Restarting PC, tried everything that I can think of!Yes, I do double check the folders and playlists before I hit the export button ,not new to DJing! And the funny thing is that it doesn’t happen every time, like there are times that it will work and there are times that it won’t! And as all of us DJs , we don’t have that amount of free time to delete our USBs or SSDs and do the whole process again! So, anyone maybe who experienced the same issue and has found a solution ? Rather than “ did you make sure that you clicked on the folders that you want to export?”.

Sorry for the long message, just had to explain it as simple as possible so that you get my issue!

Thanks all for your time, Cheers

Hi Geo, are you using sync manager? and if so are you making sure you tick the box to add the new playlist? (in the sync manager window).

Hi STU-C , and thanks for the reply! As I mentioned above, yes I tick the boxes/folders/playlists, and it’s all done in sync manager!

It might be a version issue, what version of both Engine OS and Engine desktop are you using?

I’m using v4.2.1! I also tried older versions , it happens only with Engine DJ! Same issue with every version, tried also on a different computer, again same issue! Every new folder or playlist created in Engine, doesn’t sync in my USBs or SSD!

Thanks for editing your original post with a sarcastic comment in reaction to a perfectly acceptable question, on that note, im out, good luck with solving your problem.

The only edit that I did was to add the version of the Engine DJ! Everything else was already there, no sarcasm was intended anywhere! Anyway, thanks again for your time!

Ok np problem, there was no malice in my question, just thought i would check base one before working out anytihng else.

Are you moving the music manually to the USB first? then trying to use sync manager to update playlists? or have it misread that part of your process?

@mufasa or @Reese might be the best people to answer this if you’re storing music on the drive itself then trying to update engine?

So how the whole process is done: create a new folder into my existing playlists ,rename it, add a couple of songs in it. Plug my USB or SSD, hit sync manager, everything looks good by now. Everything is already ticked except the new folder, I tick on it, takes some time to calculate, calculation is done, hit export. Takes about 20-30 seconds for the bar to load, export completed! The only playlists that I see are the ones that I already had on my USB , nothing new that I created on Engine! I also tried to drag and drop the new folder to the USB directory in the engine, after few seconds nothing! But if I reformat my USB and do the same export process, everything is there! What I mean is, there has to be a way for me not to go through reformatting the USB or SSD to transfer the new files or playlists because that takes way to long time! Like I said above , same process done in rekordbox works perfect, everything is there! The problem is always with Engine and it’s annoying always! Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it!

Can you try it using ExFat instead of Fat32 for the format? Its the only other thing i can think of. Are you also letting the software do the cleanup operation? i always say yes to that part.

I agree you shouldnt have to be formatting each time, thats ridiculous.

I mean I could try but I’m not really sure if it’s gonna do any difference! But could there be any chance that it has to do with antivirus? But on the other hand why does it export normal when the USB is freshly formatted  it’s a really weird problem!

It’s worth a go, I think the preferred format is exfat with Engine.

Strange one

When things act strange I usually test a new database

Do you know how to create a test engine dj database?

No idea!! I would appreciate it a lot if you could guide me a bit!!

This is one of those infuriating things about Engine. There is something wrong and it’s (what we say in the industry)”swallowing the exception”.

I’ve run into this and there was a column for the playlist record that was set to 1 when it should have been set to 0. I think it was “isPersisted” or something like that.

Music > Engine Library Folder

rename the engine folder into something else eg Engine Library 2025

Start up Engine DJ

It should be an empty library

Drag some test tracks into it say 10 tracks

Now do your usual export with these 10 tracks to usb and adding more playlist/folders etc

See if it works

I have the same issues, I treat sync manager as only engine → sb. I always format the stick and just push it all back to a clean stick every time.

You don’t need to format to get good exports if the DB is clean.

Did you decide to update to 4.3.0? If so, are your getting the same behaviour?

I’m on Mac with Engine DJ 4.1.0 with remote exFat SSD as Engine OS performance drives. One thing I’ve noticed is that even though Sync says it’s done, it’s not. If you try to eject the remote drive, either via Finder or Engine Drives, it will say it is still in use. Looking under the hood I find that Sync is still copying the music files. If you are adding a lot of tracks this can take a while and also depends on the speed of the connected drive.

One difference, I believe, is that my new playlists do show in the destination drive list (right panel) once Sync says it is done. Whereas you say…

Thanks a lot!! Ok so what I did: made a back up just in case , opened up lexicon DJ and imported my library as well (because one back up is never enough), changed the name on Engine Library folder, opened up Engine, playlists are gone, created a new play, dragged and dropped some new songs that I didn’t have in Engine or on my USB, waited for analyse, plugged USB, sync manager , took around 2 and half hours, export completed! So it kind worked but it didn’t! What happened is that the new playlist was there except everything else, so it deleted everything from my USB! Next step what I’m doing right now is : rename the engine library, open engine, everything is there except the new playlist , recreate again the new playlist , analyse done, plug USB and hit sync manager. This is gonna take some time now (200+GB of music)! I’m curious if it’s gonna export also the new playlist  Thanks again for your time, I appreciate it!
