Engine Software Not Starting - Stuck on Initialization

Hello,

Since today, I have the problem that the Engine software no longer starts. I haven’t updated the software or Windows. The startup window always appears with “initializing,” and then nothing happens. You can see the software icon in the taskbar, but nothing more happens. There is no “Not Responding” message from the software itself to indicate it has crashed.

In the Task Manager, it looks like this:

I have already repaired, uninstalled, and reinstalled it, but without success.

However, I noticed that the last time the program was working, it crashed while closing and creating the library backup automatically. Could this be related?

Did you have a second screen attached temporarily? Might also be opening outside of your screen. Then again, eventually it should not state initializing anymore.

No, I don’t have a second monitor. I have also tried bringing the window to the foreground using Windows + arrow keys.

Okay bummer. I hope other community members might have a possible answer. In the meantime, my advise would be to create ticket at Support | Engine DJ as well.

Could it be that my database is broken?

Several members reported corruption with 4.0, but that’s the database on the EngineOS device after sync.

You could try and rename the Engine library folder(s) on your pc to see if the software at least starts. It will create an empty database of course, but you still would have the renamed (possibly corrupted) original to put back in place manually to troubleshoot further with support.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it didn’t help. So we can assume that it can’t be the database.

I installed Engine DJ on another computer where it had never been installed before, and then loaded my current database, and everything worked. Is there a way to delete “EVERYTHING” from Engine DJ, since a simple uninstall probably doesn’t delete everything? I have the database as a backup.

There are surely internal files or entries in the Windows registry that are not deleted by uninstalling.
