Engine loosing my tracks

I am so frustrated! This has been going on for years. I am scared to play events now…

  1. I run my new tracks in Engine DJ in a new playlist from my computer HD. Drag them in my main Engine LIbrairy. Then export into a playlist on the memory stick or SC6000 HD. It takes soooooooo long everytime just to read, but once done… I go play… My decks are running super slow with message saying updating…
  2. Next day I come back to the computer to transfer again, and all or part of the music I just had is now red. Nothing has changed in my computer…

What the Heck is wrong??? This is driving me insane!!! Please help!

Sorry that you are frustrated @David_Beaudoin .

I have zero issues with speed of import & export speed.

Your computer’s processing capabilities (think number of CPU cores), RAM (fast memory), its I/O interfaces and the types of storage devices you use, how your computer interfaces with your storage devices and the file system you’re using on all of the above all matter when it comes to speed.

Examples: APFS is faster than exFAT and exFAT is faster than FAT32. USB 4 > USB 3.2 > USB 3.1 > USB 3.0 > USB 2.0. Even using USB hubs can slow down access to storage devices. NVME > SATA SSD > HDD > SD Cards.

Also, failing devices may not report failures to the operating system AND will slow everything down (read/writes).

All of that said, we can’t help you if you don’t provide details on what you’re using, how they are connected and what not.

Thanks for the reply. No problem with speed on computer and SD Cards, and Memory Sticks. I have tried it all, and I have now all of them having the same issue, so I doubt they would be all falty. Computer is Apple Macbook Pro M3 Max, 4 TB HD, 64 Gb Memory, it is a superhouse. I had the same issue before though with previous powerhouse.

I have had these issues since I transfered to Denon when the SC6000 came out. I love them, but really have a hard time with Engine… It is as if it has a ghost… Never had this with Serato, and Rekordbox. I do not understand… and yeah, during gigs, I have the “Updating” on all devices. as mentioned above. USB 3.2, SD Cards XS 256GB, 500g and 1 TB SSD internal, for up to a minute sometimes on the decks, and have to reboot the decks often. I had to change layer to keep going, and play spotify from the computer to sneek by. stressful!

I understand what you are telling me in regards to device and this is why I did not write about it, it is a given on my end. All equipment is good and fast. I understand also that all is in exFAT to be compatible. I have USB 4 and some devices are USB 3.2, and all SATA SSD. This is not the problem.

The problem is: My tracks in playlists are moved and copied to Engine DJ, transferred to a given Device. I then close Engine, then when opening again, these tracks are now red in the playlists and librairy.

Thank you for shedding some light on your configuration and understand your frustration. You’re completely correct, an M3 Pro Max is plenty horse power.

Let’s focus here:

What does “moved and copied to Engine DJ” mean? Engine doesn’t Move files when you add them to the application via drag and drop. Are your tracks stored on an external volume or are they all stored on your 4TB internal host storage?

For the record, I own 4x SC6000M devices and never have these issue. Though, I use internal SSDs exclusively for speed.

I get that you’re frustrated and I really do want to help you the best I can, however your use of punctuation has me really confused about what you’re using and how.

With all your performance drives mounted/showing in Engine DJ on your MacBook

Go to Engine DJ desktop options

try the database optimization in Engine DJ.

The database optimization worked in getting lots more tracks back! Thanks so much!
