🚀 Engine DJ v4.2.0 Now Available - Stems, Recording Normalization, Beatport FLAC + More

I still see my Tidal tracks in 4.2 on iMac

So you export your new music with Engine, eject your drive then head to the gig, you see all your new music.

In Rekordbox you export your new music, eject your drive and head to the gig and your new music isn’t there, because you forgot to right click and select ‘update collection’ before ejecting.

You think that isnt an issue? Given some of the stuff you come here to complain about, i find that hard to believe im afraid.

Hello, I need to be able to read and write my music from the NAS on my network and this update still doesn’t do it. It’s a big disappointment!

Just loaded some Tidal tracks on my Prime Go+ and they show in Engine afterwards. I’m using the SD card directly rather than syncing.

Error during Stems processing

The rendering of one or more files has failed due to an error during Stems processing. We recommend that you abort this job.

:frowning:

Are you able to make a playlist from them? If not what does it matter?

No because a reasonable solution was there. Sounds like a user error if you forget

No, its extra steps that are not necessary, that is the problem with your ‘perfect’ software, the same as the popup windows that appear when you try and update playlists with new music, more clicks, more faff, less streamlined.

Ha don’t get me started with the extra steps within engine. Will take those minimal extra steps over engines way. I use both and it’s night and day difference.

What extra steps? I also use both and Serato so id like to understand what ‘extra steps’ there are in Engine?

You can’t prep a mix in engine(because you can’t control anything with a controller) no making playlist with streaming tracks, no listening to stems in software, no controller support for desktop, no sorting streaming playlist on player unless you have played the track before. (Very roundabout workflow) I could go on and on but truly most of this is stuff we have talked about before Stu.

Yeah most of those things are essentially saying Engine desktop isnt performance software, which we know it isn’t.

They do need to add the ability to sort streaming track inside it, but then Pioneer/Alpha also need to start adding streaming services full stop, their options are very limited, and correct me if im wrong but dont you have to pay the subscription model in order to work with streaming tracks in RB?

Yeah sure charge a fee for software just make it useable

What if I’m away from my decks and want to create and test a mix? The workflow is totally irrational, not sure how you can prep anything without this capability.

This is a first stab dude and it’s generally usable. I’m sure the stems platform will be improved upon in due course.

Then you test your mix using DJ software, of which there is plenty. Try using Rekordbox if you like it so much. Denon don’t make DJ software, and they don’t need to, because the Prime units are standalone systems.

A little tip for everyone who uses Lexicon - the beta 1.7.112 now supports Engine 4.20.

I just tried it - works great

So what’s the point of preparation software if you can’t prep anything with it?

I do make my sets in rekordbox and test them on my couch with my xp. To get them to transfer to engine is the problem because you can’t view rekordbox streaming playlists on a usb in engine. If it was possible I would make them on engine because I have all Denon gear at my house. I’d just rather sit on my couch and make my set rather than stand in front of my decks.

Can anyone get Triode’s Now Playing 2 working with the latest firmware ?

I just can’t get it to connect to my SC Live 4 anymore. Wondering if the firmware changes have caused a problem…

That of course depends how you define “preparation”.

Denon describe Engine DJ software firstly as “collection management software” - and it does that. They also use the phrase “music library organization”, which again it can do.

The last thing they mention is “track preparation”, which supposedly means setting cue points, loops and so on. It’s capable of that too.

Howver, it appears you expect to be able to DJ with it…
