I work on a MAC environment and my main asset Management System is Apple Music. Engine DJ in my desktop doesn’t seem to take the updates from Apple music and aditionally the Prime 4+ does not take updates from Engine DJ. Any sugestions? Have anyone encounter this before?
Well, you can’t “update” your Apple Music imports into Engine Dj, you’ll have to import every playlist again. See feature request, I believe there is a request for that
As for Engine DJ to Engine OS: are you using sync manager?
Yes I am trying to use the sync manager. It does not work. First, the Engine DJ take up to two days to update but the information does not transfer to the Prime 4+. Any suggestions? I talked to support, they told me that it supposed to work. They looked in my computer and told me everything was Ok. What surprised me is that they don’t seem to know this is a know issue. I am still trying to manage the media for the prime 4+. Any help will be greatly apreciated.
The harsh truth is to just avoid using Apple Music to manage your library.
This isn’t only advise for Engine users, back when ITunes became Apple Music it screwed everyone up who uses Serato.
You’re essentially putting your whole faith in a company who could one day pull the plug on Apple Music, or just completely change how their database works. You can’t send them feature requests and they certainly don’t care about DJs.
Look after your own music, organise it yourself and keep it up to date yourself, that way they are just files on a computer that no matter what any company decides to do will remain just files on your computer.
It is supposed to work…
Is your USB stick okay? Your OS often won’t tell you it’s broken explicitly, while when you look at the syslog (on Mac OS), it will spit a load of read/write errors. Of course when that happens, writing is extremely slow, and thus sync manager…
Regarding STU-C’s comment:
Yeah, although I am kind of stuck at using it (big library, 20 years of digital DJing), I wouldn’t recommend it anymore. The most dangerous issue is that Apple Music has a lot of features that start moving files around or start to change tags. That gave me more than a couple headaches in the last 2 decades. If I would start over, I would put my MP3’s in a separate folder which only gets accessed by my DJ software.
But in the end that’s a whole different discussion. First let’s get you up and running with sync manager
Mine was because i hated the way it ‘organised’ my files when i was buying a single track from one of their albums etc, so i manually organise them myself, started way back when on Scratch Live and just done it like that ever since.
When i get home tonight ill have a play around and see what is and isnt working on mine with the Apple Music integration. Is it meant to work like RB where you can tick ‘itunes library’ on sync manager and update your USB stick?
No, I don’t believe you can sync any third party library directly, you can only import it into Engine DJ, not update it. There are a lot of feature requests about this. Sync manager only syncs from Engine to engine.
@Jay_Jaxon1 for that matter you can also drag and drop things to an external drive. Not sure if you can drag and drop from iTunes, but if you drag and drop your whole main library to said USB stick, and this is slow too, you ruled out sync manager, and made your USB stick even more suspicious. Did you try a different USB?
