Engine deletes playlists

Hello to all,

I don’t know if it happens to you too, but I have been noticing for a long time that some lists were disappearing and I didn’t know why. A few days ago I was cleaning up this month and the folder that contained lists inside the events that I had done these days I moved them to a sub folder of old events. And when I wanted to use those lists I had deleted them, in the folder of old events the other folders with sublists had become a simple list grouping all the songs contained in the folder.

I don’t know if it is possible to revert this, as it is a lot of work that I had been doing that has been deleted.

It can be restored if you have made a backup copy of your library, using a simple “Copy/Paste” of the “Engine library” folder, or by using the automatic backup function included in Engine DJ Desktop.

in this case I am working from the pen drive, I don’t know if it will let me restore. Anyway, is there any explanation why it destroys the lists that way?

I’m checking to see that it has also deleted my songs, not only has it destroyed my playlist but it has also deleted songs. This is crazy.

I don’t know your workflow and what it did before you got this disaster.

I normally keep my tracks in my main collection on the computer, then I import the tracks into Engine DJ Desktop, in it I create playlists and smartlists, I do most of the work on the computer. Only at the end I use sync-manager to transfer and update my USB remote drive which I will then use on my hardware. Then when I have to go back to work on the computer I will first upgrade my local library using sync-manager and transfer all the updates to the library from the remote USB drive to my local collection, in this way if I have made changes to the tracks directly on the console (Grid, hot cues, loops, etc.), they will also be reported on the main collection. Then I work on the main collection on the computer.

last year used itunes as a general library made playslist there, imported to engine and there just adjusted. But songs and playlists were disappearing. So I thought it was because of a sync bug or whatever.

This year I have started a new flow which is to work from a usb where I have all the music. And songs and playlists have disappeared again. So it wasn’t Itunes, it was the Engine itself. I’ve been looking at other threads and it has happened to many people. But I can’t find a solution and I can’t work like this, because I’m a professional DJ for events. And I can’t depend on the program deciding to delete the list.

I’ve been using Engine Dj for 5 years and have never lost tracks or playlists. There is probably some sequence of operations that causes this data loss, but I don’t know how to help you discover this cause, sorry. :man_shrugging:

I’ve been noticing lost loops & cue points recently and i will probably work on a tool at the end of the summer to prove that it’s an issue. I’ve seen others mention losing tracks also and the only way to prove this is happening is to work out a snapshot system of some sort.

I won’t have the time to do any of this until late summer or even the fall due to family obligations. It has been on my mind though.

I notice also from time to time to miss songs from my playlists. The worse is that is always a surprise when I am searching for a certain song and I can’t find it and also I am wondering how many songs could be missing and I don’t know it. Then I have to re-insert the song into engine DJ app and sync with my controller. I hope they can solve this bug.

It happens to me more and more, I’m in the middle of a session and I’m going to load a song that I usually play and suddenly it’s not there or doesn’t have the right cues. I’m quite fed up with this error, to the point that I’m thinking of moving to another system, and I’m not a home dj, I do this for a living. Besides, in this forum they always say that it’s your fault, that the software is pristine, it’s wonderful and nothing goes wrong. The other day what happened is that I was adding new songs and it didn’t load the cover, I gave it to show me the folder where the song is and when it opened there was no song, so when I closed the program and opened it again it didn’t appear, even though I had put cues and loops. I was preparing a session and I lost 1 hour of work. When I restarted the computer of course the files were gone, and after restarting the computer twice the problem was solved. But it can happen at any other time. P:D: please, as I was passing by on the forum. I ask for a performance type tab to be able to see what song is being matched with others and to be able to make a simulation of DJing to better organise the session without having the controller in front of me. Since some of us work several hours in the van or the equipment is always in the truck with the tour material and I have to prepare the session with the computer.

Hello

I had a USB drive using for over 10 years with a great collection of music ( to me ) I just upgraded the Engine DJ software on my Mac, plugged the drive in, than Engine DJ shows 0 tracks on the drive. Well I don’t understand how could this happen. Could someone from Denon come and rearrange these tracks into the playlists as they were before? Totally unacceptable. Very upsetting. I have all the tracks now on the drive in the Music folder alphabetically, well, hurray, it’s all useless now. I did not want to back all this music up all on my mac, regardless, what kind of a software makes all your playlists and years of organisation going down the tube in one second? I expect a solution for this, it took years to arrange all.

Welcome to the forums.

I’m sorry that this happened to you. I know what it’s like to lose data and it absolutely ■■■■■.

This is your first point of failure, logically speaking. I can’t fathom putting my faith in a single USB drive for a decade and not having a duplicate copy of that information.

You’re sharing zero information other than the fact that you upgraded versions. Nothing about version changes, warnings, etc… Not very helpful.

Very unlikely.

This sounds like you are not using Engine DJ correctly. I use an external SSD for my source music and do not have this problem at all. It sounds like you’re using that USB drive as main storage and “performance” storage. The latter being focused on DJing. Then you export to a performance drive, Engine DJ will organize the songs based on Artist, then song name.

Engine DJ is faaaaaar from perfect. often times it fails without notification. It’s one of my biggest issues with it. One of the top rules for upgrading software is to ALWAYS back up your work.

I read the above as “I did not want to back up my years of work because I expect there to be zero failures – ever.”

I realize all of the above is likely to trigger you, and I am sorry for that. I do want to help.

  • What operating system are you using?
  • Can you share zip files of the Engine Library and Engine Library Backup folders of your host computer AND performance drive? I’ll try to find time to peek around the database and see if the original storage locations are within your backup database.

Hi As I mentioned above, it did not erase my tracks, it erased the playlists. The music was arranged to 30 playlists, now all are in one in the collection. I have a Mac running Sequoia 15.1.1. I have SC6000Prime, I plugged this drive in them, no issues, than I sat down with the Mack to add some track to the drive, Engine DJ asked for update to the latest, version, after this was done, plugged in the drive, all playlists are gone, never happened before. I have 10 USB drives, now I don’t want to plug any of them. I understand you say I need to backup, backup all drives is a load of storage, this still should not happen.

Many thanks for the help, I will look around and share the data
