Engine Connect not working with SC6000/X1850

Same here!

Engine Connect is very buggy. It is pretty strange that Denon does not comment anything about this issue.

@b_random thanks so much for this…just recently bought X1850 and this has been driving me nuts. As soon as i untoggled “Send Anonymous Usage Statistics” SC6000 rebooted and everything worked as expected. So poor on part of Denon that this bug is alive and kicking 2 years on! £££ spent, you don’t expect bugs like this

I have spent literal hours trying to fix this. I have 2xSC6000 + X1850. X1850 v1.7, SC6000 is on 4.2.0. Players in ethernet 2/3 but also tried every other combo. Players set as number 2 and 3 and plugged into digital channels 2 and 3 but I’ve also tried other combos. I have NEVER seen a menu when clicking the engine connect button, I have tried refreshing IP. If I press and hold engine connect it lights up, and says v1.7, but that’s it, no menu, no colours on the channels. Tried every order of boot. I have tried both with and without an ethernet plugged into the PC port, which I use for internet. It honestly boggles the mind… no idea what it’s problem is but I have a gig tomorrow and now I can’t run lights.

Edit to say I’ve also tried the anonymous usage suggested by others to no avail. Tomorrow I will have to just run SS on my laptop and plug the damn thing in via USB and MIDI map the faders I guess

Try designating the players as such

Left player (1)

Right player (2)

Connect to Ethernet port 2 (P1) and port 3 (P2) on the mixer.

Power everything down

  1. Power your Mixer on. Wait till it’s fully initiated. I usually hear an electric click sound coming from my 1800
  2. Power on Player 1, wait till it gets to the select drive/source
  3. Power on Player 2, wait till it gets to choose drive/source
  4. Now check if both players can see each others drives.
  5. Pick a drive, check if the mixer LED colors match your players jog

Good morning!

Thank you very much for your reply, much appreciated.

I followed your steps to the letter just now, tried a couple of times, as you say there is a little relay ‘click’ from the mixer after it’s done booting, I wait a few second after hearing that just in case then start the players 1, then 2, waiting for them to fully boot and selecting a source, waiting a couple seconds. The engine connect light does not illuminate even after waiting for a while. Pressing and holding manually does the same as before and I get nothing

You may need to raise a support ticket if that does not work.

Do the lights on the ethernet ports flash?

Did you try a different set of ethernet cables?

Do drives mount over the network ie player 1 can see player 2 drive and vice versa?

Does instant double work in both directions?

I was afraid of that. I’m worried that if I raise a support ticket I’ll end up having to send this back to them… I really don’t want to do that as it is very difficult and very expensive to ship from where I am.

I have tried different network cables, all ports appear to be active, instant double works, drives mount across the network just fine… I am trying to remember if the engine connect has EVER worked for me on this mixer… but I honestly can’t remember… I think there was a time early one when I received the mixer that I think I saw the deck colours show on the cue buttons but I’m not sure.

I wanted to see if downgrading to the firmware that my x1850 shipped with would fix it… but I can’t seem to find it online. I received my x1850 on firmware 1.6

Update, still completely broken, I flashed the 1.7 firmware again, tried everything above for a second time, absolutely nothing. I can also see that the BPM readout is wrong on the mixer and trying to set it to auto does nothing, I have to tap the BPM, whatever man, I can tap my FX. I have also midi mapped the faders in SS and running SS on desktop, engine link is reading the tracks / playing loops and working perfectly, clearly engine link works on the players just fine, but the mixer refuses to play ball. One thing I will say, I am 100% certain that the BPM readout on the mixer used to work perfectly and read the bpm automatically. This will get me through for now, but this is absolutely shocking that hardware this expensive can continue to be so buggy for so many people for 2 years now. Denon please for the love of god get it together man! I want so badly for Denon to be the new club king, but they are really letting me down these days

I’ve opened a ticket, hopefully they can help, and if I get a resolution I will post here for the manny others having the same problem
