Do you think we will get to a point where 3rd party developers can create add-ons for the platform and create a developer add-on ecosystem? I’m pretty sure there are lots of things the Engine team would love to include that are just not viable as part of the main product development.
I guess there are endless possibilities. I’d like to be able to develop some basic OBS integration for stream control etc.
What does everyone else think? What would be the top add-on that would enhance your experience and ability to go further?
With the database being standard SQLite there are already a couple of collaborative apps, such as Rekordcloud/Lexicon and NJINN or Whatever it’s new name is.
With so many “witnesses” out on a dancefloor, or out there in “streaming visitor land”, I’m not sure that 3rd party add-ons, which could adversely affect performance would be all that great an idea. Especially, I’d be mindful of a 3rd party add-on making Denon hardware/firmware look bad, would be something that Denon would open the shell for.
I was thinking more along the line of the streaming service integration for OBS etc. Being able to add options to start, end and scene transition which OBS supports using websockets. Anything to keep you focused on the deck and not moving focus to laptops etc. Any 3rd party apps would need to be approved etc.
One advantage of building an eco-system is that it helps user retention and buy in. Once you have the functionality you need in one place it makes you think a lot harder if you consider switching platforms etc. Also 3rd parties can develop utilities and addons that are not viable for the Engine team with an option to acquire them at a later stage if they gain traction.
Not asking them to release their IP (as someone on the facebook group thought I was) just make integrating with it open.
Plugins for the Desktop Engine software could work, you never know.
