Display full comments on Denon prime go plus

Hi is there anyway to show full comments on the Denon prime go I use full comments on virtual DJ for mixes to identify tracks I cannot see this option on prime go

The display modes are fixed and can’t be changed by the user.

I’d rather have year displayed than key but they’re baked in the OS so it’s a no.

Details are in the manual…

You can search and sort by various tags, and the display of those tags is tied to the sort option, so they only show if you sort by that tag.

It is a bit limited though, because despite being able to have the browser (almost) full width, the comments are restricted to a narrow half height area below the key, BPM and length, so unless your comment is short, it’ll be cut off.

Thing is that nobody really searches by comment though.

That’s a sweeping statement, and also incorrect because I often search comments. OP too, based on his post.

I’ve been putting info into the comment field for decades. For example some tracks I remember by the way I discovered them (i.e. in a film or a commercial) so that info is useful during memory lapses.

Maybe he was referring to showing a column with comments in the (expanded) browse-view, something I would certainly appreciate myself (switchable to genre).

We got the preview waveforms, but technically there is still a bit space left, so with some optimizations, a comment with 10-12 characters could fit into there. For the smaller 7“ screens it is probably required to select between wave, genre or comment, but the 10“ are spacious enough to allow displaying both. Fingers crossed it gets considered for a future release, as several people have suggested that additional column.

Sorting by comment or genre already works, and then you can also see them (displayed beneath the key). However, if sorting by rating, key or bpm, they disappear again.

Oh agreed wholeheartedly. It’s one of those long standing requests that’s been ignored. Ideally user selectable tag columns, with on/off for each.

For me, a wave display in the browser is just wasted space. I don’t choose tracks based on what the waveform looks like

I’d much rather be able to make my own choice of tag info to show in all that black space.

Yes that is where I was coming from in my comment.

Perhaps there’s some middle ground to be had here…

While searching or displaying commends may not be all that popular in a live situation, perhaps Smart Playlists could be improved (in some future update - not the very next update though)…

Eg: . <<Where comments include “transition track” then include this track in my “transition tracks” playlist >>

I use the comment field to contain tags for different instruments in the tracks, and search by comment all the time.

I think you mean that no one sorts by comment. We search w comments in the search window.

…but in order to see them, you need to select them to “sort by” or they don’t show.

This comparison shows the issue:

  1. Sorted by comment (shows no star rating)
  2. Sorted by date added (shows no star rating)
  3. Default (track, artist, star rating, bpm, key, or play order)
  4. Performance playlist never shows comment or genre, even if sorting by these parameters

Also notice the inconsistency: in the library, star rating is displayed below the key/bpm/time, in the performance library it is the other way round.

Is that a dealbreaker? Hell, no. But it shows a limitation which is probably strongly relevant for laptop-DJs that are used to have detailed browse and filter / sorting information at a glance. I really wished for the option to add an extra column (combined with smaller overview waveforms), where comment or genre could get display and sorted by, while keeping the other info (bpm, key, time, rating) visible.

At least it was quite worse before 4.0 which was a good step in the right direction.

Yeah, I completely agree. There is a feature request for this. i heavily rely on the comments as an open format DJ. Also use it with smart crate tags on certain words and symbols I use.

I was just pointing out the wrong choice of word in homeland101’s comment. I think he means that no one “sorts” by comment, not “searches” .

Possibly, but then that’s also a sweeping statement and incorrect, because how could he know that with 100% certainty?

People use the comments tag for all sorts of things, and maybe some use it for something that requires sorting…

Both sides would be assumptions. To effectively sort by comments, you would have to be very consistent in your comments and how you order them. This is because when you sort them, they sort by alphabetical and numerical order.

Hey @PAUL_Bolton welcome to the forum.

I see you want to see full comments in the library.

Are you using VDJ with the Prime Go+ as a controller? I’m not too familiar in the VDJ interface on the Denon DJ gear as I don’t use VDJ. It maybe worth checking with the VDJ guys if that’s possible (they use their own interface on the Denon DJ gear).

If you want to show more of the comments when playing in Engine OS standalone mode, have you tried touching and holding a track in the library to get more information? That may give you more of the info that you need.

If you’ve searched via comment (by pressing the search magnifying glass and selecting ‘comment’) you can get more comment info by touching and holding the track within the library for a few seconds.

There’s no issue when using VDJ on the Primes because the VDJ browser (and therefore the Prime skin) can be set to display whatever tag you want, in the order you want.
