Hi I’m sharing this in the hope it will help someone else out I recently purchased a pair of SC 6000’s and an X1850 mixer when I got it home I realised that the sound dropped out on channel 3 when the fader was right at the top if I pressed on it the sound would disappear I noticed in the forum it seems to be a common problem I realised that this problem might be being caused by an accumulation of dirt an debris so I used a small brush I had as part of a spray gun cleaning kit to gently clean out the fader particularly at the top I used the brush dry and within less than a minute the problem was solved no more dropouts I’ll try and include a picture of the type of brush it’s an way fix and saves having to send the mixer off for repair
spraying some DeOxit fader lube into the groove would have helped as well, and would be a more long term solution. Every DJ and Audio equipment enthusiast should have a can of that stuff, as well as the contact cleaner they make. A little goes a long way, and it will resolve a lot of issues. My Mixstream Pro Go x-fader started bleeding on one side, and I sprayed a bit in there and it fixed it right up. that was 4 months ago. Great post OP.
As a electronics engineer I can tell you - spraying anything in to your faders to clean it without disassembly and cleaning the residue is the worst idea. What ever the liquid will take with it, will rest on the board and can potentially cause short circuit or PCB degradation. Not necessarily now, but after some time. If you don’t plan to clean the residue after cleaning the faders, don’t spray anything in them.
People have been using DeOxit in this way for many years with equipment still working fine until this day after use. I work in IT and equipment works fine with layers of dust on it for lord’s sake. I hear what you’re saying, but it’s not true. They literally provide you with a spray straw so you can fit it into the groove and spray it into there…
Lucky people. I would never take such a risk. Specially when rinsed out debris will sit on a pcb or drip out of the fader to another pcb… very bad idea.
