Denon SC5000 Track Load/Skip Delays

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this isn’t the right forum but I didn’t have the right to create topic on hardware section.

I have 2x denon sc5000 and xone96 and I have a question regarding track load times as well as skipping to the next track. Right now when I load a track, it takes between 5 and 20 seconds to load. It’s even worse if I click on “Next Track” button. I don’t have tons of songs on the drive, just about 30 and I exported them from Engine Software after analyzing. It feels like I haven’t analyzed them and denons are constantly doing extra work on the background

I am using 128 gb usb drive with 150mb/s read speed (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B015CH1PJU?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)

I’ve tried formatting it to Fat32 and exFat, no improvement or change, tried GPT to MBR, no change

Which USB port on the SC5000 are you using? Front or rear? Which version of Engine desktop and on the player?

I’ve tried all. I guess front one is 2.0 and other two on the back are 3.0.

Engine Software is 4.3.0 Hardware version is 4.3.3

Not sure if these are helpful but:

Display is version 00.21 Controller is version 00.48

on the hardware

I’d use the rear USB ports. Do you have another USB you can try, you might have a bunk USB drive.

I tried 3 different USBs. The one I shared on my initial post is brand new, got it this week and only used on denons.

I recorded a video of the issue, however looks like new users can not attach links or videos

I think I am promoted so here is a video of the issue:

What audio format are you using and what is the average size of your tracks?

Check the dimensions of your track cover art. It is recommended not to exceed a format of 600x600 or 1000x1000 pixels maximum. Excessively large cover art can significantly slow down track loading.

Also, clean up your database in the Engine Desktop settings before exporting to your storage media.

I cleaned up the database earlier in Engine Desktop and it wasn’t any different.

Album art subject is interesting though, where do they get stored after syncing to USB Drive from Engine Desktop?

I am using FLAC and my file sizes are about 40-70mbs

Also, I was looking at what’s inside the USB, looks like all my songs have duplicates because each song has another identical with suffix “_02”. Not sure if this is an export problem

I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that cover art is stored in the tag itself of your tracks, which can significantly increase the size of your tracks depending on where you got them from. We’ve seen files where the cover art was so large that it could double the size of your tracks.

You clearly have a problem either in the library management; or in the export here.

I just checked the album art and all of them have 640x640 png

Do you have the same issue if the files are MP3 or ALAC?

FLAC files are always a bit slower for me as well, but not as slow as you’re experiencing.

I tried mp3 files, tiny tiny bit faster but still slow, takes about 3-5 seconds with mp3. I am not sure if I am analyzing correctly, should I analyze on the collection when using Engine Desktop or should I analyze on the Drive itself?

Try a factory reset on the players and log back into your account. IMHO its a bunk USB, I moved away from SanDisk and use the Teamgroup X1 MAX USB 3.2 Gen2 drives, cheaper than the Tech tools or Pioneer one and just as fast.

I did factory reset, same thing. Why is it a bunk usb? Not sure if getting another usb would make any difference

Use another USB to rule out if it has issues and not the player.

I use an SD card with networked decks on my 2 SC5000’s with no issue and I have thousands of tracks. Search and load times are really quick. I haven’t timed them but I can if you want.

Depends on the type. I have the Sandisk Extreme Pro Duo, which is the base product of the RekordBox and Techtools sticks.

I use them professionally in IT for installs and migrations and they are very fast and reliable.

Add a few tracks to a new drive from your computeR - no engine, just drag and drop

Let the 5000 do the analysis on board- load each track

see if you still have the slow loads
