Denon sc5000 stuck on computer mode

Hello, recently got the sc5000 and when connecting to VDJ, i get control of the cdj but it does not show the screen it just shows Computer mode. I have tried many different versions and nothing seems to work. Any advice.

I have tried different USB, updating, and looking st the midi log.

Delete the mapping in VDJ, restart VDJ, it will re-download the mapping and screen will come back up.

I have tried that and still nothing. Im starting to think it might be the actual unit but not sure what exactly

Hello,

Do you have an official licence for VDJ?

If so, go to settings then extensions then go to the ‘skins’ tab.

In the search field, enter Sc5000.

The first result should be ‘Denon DJ SC5000 Screen’.

If it is not installed, install it. If it is already installed, uninstall it and reinstall it.

Connect your Denon equipment, you should have the VDJ interface on the screens of your SC5000.

If this doesn’t work, please post a video so we can see how you do it.

I have done that, i beleive its the hardware issue. Waiting on denon to see what can be done

From your description it looks like it’s not a hardware issue at all. Re-install of the vdj would probably fix it.

Have tried that as well with no luck. Like one sc5000 connects fine and the other is the one with the problem

Can you tell us more about the computer you are using and its specs? Are you using a USB Hub? Are you connected to a USB 3 port? How many sc5000s do you want to connect at the same time?

Can you try the problematic Sc5000 on another computer?

Used both USB hub, connected straight from cdj to computer, cdj to prime 4.

The goal is to have prime 4 plus 2 sc5000

I have a mac pro 2010 thats running 10.15 i know its old but one of the cdj works fine so wondering why the other wont pick up vdj.

Probably because your computer is not equipped with USB 3.0.

You should be aware that screen operation consumes a huge amount of USB bandwidth on Virtual DJ in order to obtain a fluid display, even if only on a single device because of the waveform.

If you add two devices, i.e. two screens, you halve the available bandwidth.

If you add a 3rd device, especially if it’s a Prime 4 or Prime 4 plus which can generate up to 4 waveforms on the same screen, you divide the available bandwidth by 4 again.

It’s highly unlikely that you’ll be able to operate all these units together on a single USB 2.0 port (your hub uses the same single port), which is limited to a theoretical bandwidth of 480 Mb/sec. Especially as you probably have other USB devices on your hub, not to mention the bandwidth required for audio and the sound card.

To give you an idea, I have a laptop from this year (i5 12450h , 16 GB RAM, RTX 4060) equipped with two separate USB 3 ports.

If I connect my two SC6000Ms via a HUB to the same USB 3 port, the scrolling of VDJ waveform on the screens lags behind the audio.

I have to connect each SC6000 to a separate USB 3 port for it to work as expected.

Before deducing that your unit has a problem, I recommend that you redo your tests on a more recent computer equipped with USB 3 or higher.

Hi, dont have another computer besides my two macbook pros 2010. But i did connect a powered USB 3.0 hub and nothing worked. Even when plugging it by itself i still get the same problem.

Not sure what to do anymore.

Macbook 2010? What version of OSX and VDJ do you use?

Is a guess but the HUB wont make much difference, I have the same when connecting two cameras by example, Only ine USB 3 port on your system, I have the same mac (I think) and Mojave os

Why not use the built in software from denon. The normal Engine OS works fine.

Just don’t have the silly stem functions .

Is like having a Motor bike and trying to drive it like a horse. :•)

Kiss Keep It Simple Silly :upside_down_face:

OSX 10.15 Catalina, i know that’s old but wouldn’t make sense why one of my cdjs works fine and the other doesn’t. Also VDJ has been updated to newest (automatic updates)

Usually for my bigger events where I don’t want to load everything to a USB drive, I use my computer and VDJ. I do have a copy of Serato but don’t want to take the time to redo all my Hot cues and such

Yeah, I get your idea. But as You can see, it gets a little tricky with vdj. I would suggest to start thinking about stand alone option - most reliable. Maybe @PKtheDJ know more about VDJ? Let’s see if he can help us here.

He got a response from Atomix last week (assuming he’s posting as maustronic).

They reckon it’s a hardware fault, and that he should report it to Denon.

correct! they told me to ask this forum as well and am speaking with the repair company

What you need to understand is that your USB 2.0 port does not offer enough bandwidth to manage so many external devices with screen on VDJ. It does not matter if you put a 3.0 or even 7.0 HUB on it. As soon as it is connected to a 2.0 port It acts as a 2.0 hub and you lose all the advantage of the bandwidth of a 3.0 port. It acts as a bottleneck.

The problem is not your player or one of your players, the problem is that with so many external devices you saturate the bandwidth of the only USB 2.0 port on your mac. And I am ready to bet my hand that if you test your players on a computer equipped with 2 separate USB 3.0 ports it will work.

Do the test with a friend’s computer equipped with two USB 3.0 ports and you will see.

Already with two external screens on which VDJ must send the waveforms on a USB port you saturate your bandwidth on this port. So if in addition you add a prime 4 in the equation you are well beyond the admissible bandwidth for USB 2.0.

Keep in mind that VDJ sends a whole bunch of display data (waveform, elapsed time, remaining, BPM, pitch value etc …) at a frequency of about 45 images / sec for each screen. USB 2.0 is not a port designed to send such important and varied display data on 3 screens at once.

If you test each device separately and it works, no device is defective. If you plug 2 or 3 devices together on this port (or on a hub, whatever) and it no longer works correctly on all these devices at the same time, it is because you are faced with a saturation of the USB bandwidth (480 mb/sec is not infinite, especially when we are talking about display)

If when testing each device separately, you have one that does not work and the other two work, then only from this case can you deduce that you have a problem on this player.

Either you must at least remove the prime 4 from the equation, or you remove the two sc5000 from the equation, or you consider the possibility of updating your computer with a model having at least 2 separate USB 3.0 ports to make everything work at the same time (so not a macbook since most only have one USB port)

Do both players work if they are the only device connected to the computer?

Connect player 1, test then disconnect it. Connect player 2, test then disconnect it.

If both players work when connected by themselves it’s a bandwidth issue. If one of them does not work (and it’s the same unit each time) then it’s probably a hardware error.
