Hi there! I see that I’m not the only one, who has this problem , but maybe someone knows already the solution. Before I was using Pioneer DDJ 1000 on Rekordbox and now I just bought Prime Go. The problem is with transitions, because I have the same tracks that I played before and now I can’t perform same smooth transitions on Prime Go. It sounds too harsh… Why this happening ? How can I adjust so it sounds similar to DDJ 1000? Thanks an advance!
When you say “harsh” do you mean that a small amount of movement/rotation of the EQ makes a big difference?
I feel like next track goes in too aggressive, louder, idk… it just feels wrong, I can’t explain… maybe eq knobs are on much bigger sensitivity than on Pioneer.
Like brakes on different cars, everything is going to feel different to anything else. Every piece of equipment will have different EQ ranges, different EQ curves, EQ versus ISO settings etc
Even the size of the EQ knob can make things seem less or more responsive…. Imagine the sensitivity you’d be able to achieve if you glued a bicycle wheel to one of your EQ knobs haha.
You don’t get DJs going around saying “oh I can only mix on a A&H 484” or “I can’t mix on faders shorter than 200mm” - it’ll just take time. The more gear you use, the easier you’ll find adapting
Thanks man, I hope it’s just a matter of time. But I also I started to play with iso xover low/high ranges and it’s seems to be a little bit better now. Also trimm level acting not the same, for example songs that I had on the same level before (pioneer knob on 12 o’clock) , on Denon one of the songs sounds louder then it was before, so you have to adjust trimm knob much more often, much more sensitive.
Yes trims vary from product to product in the same way. More sensitivity usually also means more versatility- you might be able to get the Go to listen to devices which are far too quiet or too loud for a pioneer to listen to, rather than having a gain control which only gives a small range of gaining across the whole of its travel
By the way, is it okay, that I have LED indicators on both channels, when I play only on one deck?
Those led meters only show the master output. As it’s stereo output , there are two.
There’s no visual showing of input signal per channel, so you’ll need to gauge sound levels by ear.
I know what you mean, that was the same problem for me comming from Traktor.
I’ve even asked for “EQ Profiles Presets” to work like various mixers (Like in Traktor) !
But you can try this : EQ Type on “Isolate”, ISO EQ High Xover on “1300 Hz” and ISO EQ Low Xover on “180 Hz”.
That’s sound better for me
Thanks man, I just had a chance to change settings and try and it’s really now sounds much better Do you have some other combinations you were using ? Would be cool to know different eq presents
Update :
I think I found solution to the problem, that was with all of this story. Changing iso xover helps , but main problem is that software is much more sensitive with gains / trims. On Pioneer I didn’t have this problem because software was taking care of it and I think that is the great thing to have, some sort of auto gain. Saves time for creativity. Now I need just to analyze my library with mp3Gain express on Mac, before importing music on SD Card, it really helped me, I tried it and it works! I hope one day Denon will add this and I not gonna do this extra step. Also would be great to have auto loops which you save before and don’t need to press to activate it. (Like on rekordbox)
+1 for the auto-gain, i’ve asked many times for it !!!
I don’t know mp3Gain, does it works for AAC filles ? I’m using Audacity with macros to normalize my tracks at -1dB. Works fine with mp3 files but not with the AAC ones (AAC export don’t works fine…).
A have no idea, man , if it works with those formats, I think no, due to the name , but you can try
We need to creat some sort of petition for Denon for this update. How we can do it ? I’m not sure if they read it here …
A very quick Google will reveal that there is also a program called aacgain…
You know what ? I noticed that I have much better gain situation if I play from the master outputs on the back, from speakers or adapters for my headphones. But when I play and practice from the front port, where you plug headphones normally and put on master , then I notice this problem much better. It’s like this output in my Prime Go is not calibrated the same way as it’s from master outputs on the back. It sounds louder and more aggressive I can say… Have you noticed that ?
