Can anyone advise if I need to purchase a new view button if it has fallen into the device? If so does anyone know where I can source one? Can’t see anything apart from one in the Netherlands that will cost me £30-40 delivered.
I’m happy enough to perform the repair myself (already replaced a fader).
If I can’t source a view button is there anything I can do with the one I have to get it functioning again?
Technically this should be repaired by Denon free of charge as it is an inherent fault with these units. Contact them and see what they say.
I’ve just had an issue with one of my MCX8000 controllers as it has a similar issue with the play/pause button plastic retainer falling apart. Spares for those are long gone now.
This cursed View Button (mine is still fine, luckily) makes me ponder about a custom 3D-printed solution, which is more robust. Thoughts @NoiseRiser ? Maybe I should open my P4 puppy. Still have white PETG chilling around
This reminds me - I’ve been watching this guy on YouTube recently, and in the video below he found one broken plastic hinge so proceded to fashion two brand new ones out of aluminium. What a guy!
The stl-file is no biggie for me, I designed my whole Skarmask in Blender. I just have no idea what exactly I am dealing with here. Are we talking about a similar issue like a typical microswitch failure? From the photos I have seen here and on google, it seems to be the hinge, which indeed looks comically flimsy, which eventually breaks and causes the entire switch cap to “fall inside”. But I could be wrong.
Printing in PETG probably wouldn’t help much. Making it much thicker could make the clicking threshold too stiff. Keep it thin and it will break again. PETG by itself is very robust. So still worth a try.
And yes, more metal instead of plastic on crucial components would be welcomed, but this issue isn’t related to DJ gear alone, I spotted such questionable parts on my microwave (Samsung), Washerdryer (Philipps), and other gear as well. Especially stupid when it’s part of the door latching/locking mechanism… controllers > engineers, eh.
Indeed. However, my issue is the quick touble-tap to jump into Engine Lighting, this is only feasible via the dropdown menu and hence no option for me in faster sets. I have my Control One of course, but the Lighting GUI has its own advantages (labeling of all slots and central positioning - my FOV is pretty limited, hence I tend to use the onscreen controls more often recently, as I don’t have to turn my head to the side that often).
I really, really love the dedicated (and chonky) Lighting button on my Live 4 for that reason!
On that note: One big downgrade that Engine DJ 4.0 brought to me (and several other Lighting users) are the removed waveforms + cue markers we had, highlighted below. If they bring this back, I could probably stay in EL mode during my entire set, at least with a prepared playlist:
You could design it to have a full width of the button to be the hinge (for increased durability), or in deed make it 0.2mm thicker (or both). The button needs to swivel only 0.5mm (typical microswitch click). I would suggest to print it from 2 parts. Hinge made from TPU (very flexible and abuse forgiving material) and the rest PET-G or PLA. Glue the 2 together to form a switch and I bet it will withstand years of clicking.
For reference here’s the response from InMusic - the 4-8 week back order time is wild. Why they don’t have millions of these available and ready to be shipped I’ll never know. Not ideal InMusic, not ideal at all.
