Denon prime 4 + just randomly crashes in the middle of my gig

My prime 4 + is not ok…

When i start and play at the gig nothing happends runs like it the first day out of the box but later in the night in about 4-5 hours in sometimes more ,sometimes less it just freezes and it reeboots itself and doesen’t reconise my drives so i need to reset it 2 times before it works and finds my drives , i dont know what to do because its becomeing a serious problem… And after meybe an hour or so it starts lagging and i dont know why , i even got a fan to not say its overheating but i dont know what to do with both problems, i run 4 decks and soundswitch also . someone please help

Probably running out of RAM. SoundSwitch uses a fair chunk of it so I’d suggest sticking to 2 deck playback or not using the lighting module.

It’s just the way these units are designed with a lack of RAM, not much you can do about it.

Unlikely to be RAM. All these units have the same RAM amounts and the internet would have been full of “my soundswitched 4 deck prime 4 does this, does that” comments, and yet, the internet isn’t flooded with any such comments.

As a good test at home, try running things as normal with 4 decks and soundswitch and when the problem appears, time the exact duration you can play out before the issue happens. Then try switching it off, and immediately back on and carry on… timing how long it goes before the problem happens again…. If it happens faster than before, it could be heat build up (so check for blocked air vents, tight flightcase, surrounding heat sources etc) if it happens after about the same duration as the first time then let us know -

Also, any laptop connected ?

i dont use laptops for the console only for my mixer but that is something else

Im running prime 4 with soundswitch over 2years (3 time a week) never had a issue.

Internal ssd… Its not the ram…

I have the exact same issue with my Prime 4.

External Sandisk SSD connected via USB, and SoundSwitch Control 1 running my lighting setup.

There’s no particular time limit, however it usually happens after at least an hour of playback. It is usually when searching for a song or scrolling through my history. I do sometimes stream from tidal but the majority of tracks are pulled from the drive.

It’s become progressively worse, and I’d say it now happens at least once on every gig which is really not ideal. Was a solution ever found?

i found that when i added an UPS it worked because somehow the whole sistem was overloaded and there are some tiny peaks and when is that happening on the whole system the prime 4/4+ goes into protect, to not overcurrent, i draw like 4kw and i understand it now and i do not have that issue anymore, right now i have the “UPS nJoy Horus Plus 1000” and it works great for me and in case of a blackout i can still play music for 4 h on my rcf 912

That’s interesting, I thought it may be a firmware issue to do with using the streaming services, I’d ruled out a power issue. Has anyone else tried this?

Hi everyone,

I had a gig yesterday that lasted over ten hours. I really pushed the Denon DJ Prime 2 to its limits and used practically everything the controller is capable of.

There weren’t any dropouts or problems during the entire performance. Everything ran absolutely smoothly with Engine OS 5.0.2. Therefore, I assume that neither the software nor the hardware of my Prime 2 is the cause of the problems described. It wasn’t the venue either.

Of course, I can’t say what’s causing your problems. But based on my experience, I suspect the cause is more likely your individual hardware or a defect.

That’s all from me. Cheers!
