Hi everyone,
I am writing this because I am experiencing a persistent and frustrating issue with my Denon DJ gear. For context, I have been a loyal Prime 4 user for 4 years. I started experiencing random power shutdowns during live sets. I initially suspected it might be a hardware limitation of the original Prime 4 regarding firmware updates, so I recently upgraded to a brand new Denon Prime 4+.
Unfortunately, the issue is happening again.
Here are the details of the problem:
The behavior: The unit powers off completely during live performances.
Troubleshooting done: I have completely ruled out electrical issues. I have used different power cables, high-quality surge protectors/stabilizers, and tried various power outlets at different venues. The issue persists regardless of the power source.
Current Setup:
Unit: Denon Prime 4+ (Current issue) / Prime 4 (Previous issue).
Firmware: 5
Context: It happens during live events when the unit has been running for a while.
Could this be related to a specific configuration, an overheating issue, or a potential bug in the current firmware version? Has anyone in the community experienced similar random shutdowns with the Prime 4 series?
Any advice, logs I should check, or recommended next steps would be greatly appreciated. I need to rely on this gear for my business, so finding a resolution is critical.
Thanks in advance.
The common thread across all devices is that firmware v5.00 and 5.01 updates have caused major disruptions to a large number of users experiencing the same or similar issues. The common remedy is to drop back to v4.34 or prior when it was stable.
The issues seem to be related to library optimisation but the Engine platform doesn’t seem smart enough to show that it is still working in the background so libraries are being transferred to devices / controllers in an incomplete state and the controllers are powering off and dropping sound due to data conflicts.
It is a major concern that v5.01 was released the day following the v5.00 because … they forgot to include s/w for one of their very own controllers which highlights the lack of integrity during the whole process from a technical point of view … if it was a secondary brand not related to Engine / Denon / Rane / Numark then I understand but … IT WAS ONE OF THEIR OWN.
Roll back, bench test in the studio / office for a few hours and see if that helps.
As a matter of habit, I always wait a month or so after any new s/w release so see the feedback … the feedback on the change tov5 was absolutely terrifying and has resulted in a lost of confidence of anything Engine ATM … feels like being a Pioneer user again hahaha
Hey MannyDj what a horrorstory
i’ve had a PrimeGo for a while with no issues and shortly upgraded to Prime4+
i have my Prim4+ for about 2 years now. i never had any issues with my Prime4+ no shutdowns not even a single glitch.. flawless.
i can imagine the horror if your gear suddenly shuts down out of the blue during a liveshow.
i’ve seen crashes and shutdowns on Pioneer dj xdj RX3s but neven heard of shutdowns on any Denon gear. i’m curious.. what did you do to counter these shutdowns? did you downgrade to firmware 4.34 (like DJ-Corey suggested) ? and did it work? i’m currently on 5.0.2 and about to update to 5.0.3
keep us posted!
btw, have look at this post Engine OS 5.0.x – Audio stutter and lag when loading tracks - Engine DJ Hardware / Standalone Controllers - Engine DJ Community
there is a way to activate some kind of statistics-monitor on your Prime4+ activate that, screenrecord your prime4±screen with your phone or something and play music until it shuts down. that might give you a clue whats causing these horrible shutdowns.
