Dennon Prime 4+ System Freezing / Locking Up

Was playing a party and my Dennon Prime 4+ running 4.3.0 locked up / froze 3 different times (super embarrasing). Had to literally unplug to restart. Again last night I had on auto playlist and it locked up / froze again. Any fix info / help would be greatly appreciated!!

Why version 4.3.0 and not 4.3.3?

Did the problem always occur with the same track or file format, such as MP3, MP4, or FLAC?

My new P4+ just completed its first 7-hour session. I immediately noticed that the waveform sometimes stutters and is sometimes delayed. For example, HotCue works perfectly, but visually, I have the impression that the waveform appears a little later.

I had a similar problem with my Prime 2. The motherboard fan stopped working. If we’re talking about the same thing: Nothing worked at all! The screen, the controller—everything was completely frozen.

It wasn’t the fan itself, but probably the control system on the motherboard. Applying a constant 12V current to the fan helped, and the freezing stopped. I finally had the motherboard replaced (approximately €180 for the Prime 2). With the old motherboard, I just had a bad feeling about going to events.

Now I have the P4+, and so far everything’s been working fine, except for the waveform’s jerkiness, which doesn’t bother me. I’m still old school and sync by ear. I’m just used to it, even though I can see that it works great visually, too.

Is the unit inside a case? Make sure it’s got lots of ventilation around it, especially in a hot environment like a club. Don’t block any case opening etc.

Also give it an update to the very latest firmware to ensure any bugs that could be causing it are squished.

No case and on an open DJ table with holes in the bottom.. i was playing an indoor air conditioned apartment also.. and the house its in now is super air conditioned…but, overheating does sound like it could be the culprit… but not sure what else i could do other than putting a fan under the table.. Curious if anyone else has ran into this before?

As I said, that was the problem for me. It didn’t matter whether the room was warm or cold. The warmer it was, the faster the CPU went into HOLD mode to avoid dying.

Idiotically, the fan is mounted on a plate on the heatsink, so it’s almost impossible to help it from the outside.

If I’m noticing correctly on my Prime, the motherboard should be located at the top right, roughly below the master Volume. Does it get significantly warmer than the rest of the surface?

A little bit is normal, and mine does too.

Another indication is that you’re not doing anything with the device… so just turning it on for hours isn’t a problem.

If you want to check it yourself, be careful: the HDMI cable is a flat and very sensitive ribbon cable. If it’s broken, it’ll be really expensive. Have someone who knows how to do that take a look. The device also has to be running to put the CPU under load. Loops and effects pitch with Keylook on are your friend here.

The Prime 2 quickly warmed up, and the problem was quickly found.

By the way,

You can see how it fits there.

  1. Have you done the library cleanup?
  2. Have you checked for corrupt files?
  3. Have you done a hard drive scan to check for errors?
  4. Have you reinstalled the OS & done a couple of restarts?

All of the above is worth checking to see if it helps

Also check for non standard characters in file names and tags.

Your library database is likely to be corrupted somewhere, LEXICON will scan your entire library and identify issues.

Also, special characters in the files like а ạ ą ä à á ą / е ẹ ė é è OR о ο օ ȯ ọ ỏ ơ ó ò ö will cause a lot of computer programs to slow or stall if it can’t clearly identify them. The resulting “stalling” of the platform may not be immediate (so it’s not always on the same song or artist for easy identification) and can freeze or lock the software program, almost like it’s rendering, then when it can’t … it will either shut down or freeze.

LEXICON has been my saviour, and although I thought my library was very clean … LEXICON proved me wrong. After replacing all the identified corrupted files I have had smooth sailing for about 6 months now (touch wood haha).

This.

I’ve had my Prime 4+ for over a year now and have played 100s of hours on it. Sometimes the room would get over 85 degrees and I never noticed a difference, However i loaded a new crate on it 6 months ago and kept having stuttering issues/slowness and freezing. I found out one of my FLAC tracks was corrupt and for some reason if i even went past that crate/playlist when DJing it would try and pre-render the track and cause the entire thing to slow down.

After going through my collection and narrowing it down the issue stopped. Not saying it can’t be something else but in my case it was 100% library corruption or an issue with some of my tracks slowing the unit down. After removing them it fixed it.

Ma prime 4 is allways in flight case, summer, winter, it doesn’t matter…

So is mine. It’s just some cases can block the air vents and cause some undesired effects as the CPU gets hot.

Not always but can happen.
