Hi there,
Prime 4+ User here, mostly very happy with the unit. Only one thing seems missing:
Can I have the Cue sound in the headphones before the EQ? When mixing out (ISO mode) all the bands are down, have to turn them up to cue and then down again before mixing in. Seems like it would be easier to just have the cue before EQ. Like this I can also keep the faders up, due to ISO cutting out all sound.
Maybe R.T.F.M. (sorry), but I didn’t find it. Also not in the settings menu on the machine…
I guess the question is, are there any other DJ devices on the market that offer pre-EQ cueing? ive never heard of it anywhere.
It might not be a ‘biggie’, but if you’re the only person in the world who is looking for it, would a company spend resource developing and implementing it?
There’s a feature request section of the forum where you can request things, you then have 10 votes to cast on your most needed requests, popular votes will rise to the top of the table, which doesnt always mean they will be implemented.
Ah ok, is that an outlier then? im not massively familiar with Allen and Heath mixers, but its certainly not something ive ever come across or experienced before with any mixer ive used.
It must be a ‘techno DJ’ thing primarily? the 96 and V10 both being geared towards that Hawtin/multi track Performance style of DJing.
Makes you wonder who/how both companies were influenced into adding it, its usually based on feedback isn’t it.
My original comment came from the uproar around not being able to hear FX and filters etc in the headphones on this forum, i think it was request number one at a point? This feature would do the opposite.
In all seriousness, there are time where I want to listen to what the channel is actually outputting with the EQ & Effects. However, I’m old enough where I can hear multiple layers in the output while being able to listen to the pre-queued music.
One of the reasons I absolutely hate listening to EQ’ed sound in my headphones dates wall the way back to my vinyl days. Mixing out with Bass killed in loud club environments meant I had to blast my left ear with more volume to compensate. With pre-eq, I can reduce the volume and trust my eyes (settings on the mixer) and my right ear (how things are sounding in the mix).
I’m old, and I don’t mix like the kids do for sure and one thing you mentioned is the Hawtin style of blending. He actually influenced me in so many ways.
Its interesting you say that, i combatted that whole volume issue by training myself to mix purely on the percussion, or in some cases even the vocal. Ive played hundreds of sets with other DJs and i would say every single one of them have the headphone set at least 1/4 of a turn more than i do, so on a B2B i spend all night turning the phones down when its my turn to mix.
Basically as long as i can hear that tsh tsh of a symbol or snare ill use that to line it up.
I can’t remember who specifically influenced my mixing style, but i know it was that ultra smooth ‘blending’ that caught my attention, so probably Hawtin or similar. Our local big name club had a Rane MP2014 installed so it was all Rotary mixing that we would see every week.
Can I just tell you, and please understand that this is out of pure jealousy for the V10, that I still find ridiculous that in 2025 Pioneer is putting master cue buttons on their mixers that thave cue/master blend knobs anyway…
