Cpu with few fast cores or many slow ones, which is better?

It dependson the software and more specifically on the application, game or benchmark that we are running and how it behaves with the instructions and cycles of the processor. For example, in an application that is only capable of running with one core in parallel, having two cores would be useless, and therefore the fast processor would have much better performance.

What is Virtual DJ case?

For example between ryzen 7 5800h vs i7-11370h:

The Intel Core i7-11370H has 4 cores with 8 threads and clocks with a maximum frequency of 4.80 GHz. Up to 64 GB of memory is supported in 2 memory channels. The Intel Core i7-11370H was released in Q1/2021.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H has 8 cores with 16 threads and clocks with a maximum frequency of 4.40 GHz. The CPU supports up to 64 GB of memory in 2 memory channels. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H was released in Q2/2021.

What do you think is better for differente softwares: Engine DJ, Serato, Traktor, VDJ?

I think fast cores are going to help you with audio processing and multiple cores are going to help you analyze large collections of music quickly. The other thing to consider is what GPU do you need. Modern DJ software renders using the GPU and newer features such as stems are processed using the GPU in your computer.

Serato DJ uses all threads available for analysis - on my 3900x AMD Ryzen 12C/24T, it analyses 24 tracks at once.

Engine DJ desktop - uses all the 24T on the same processor and blazes through a bulk analysis process pretty fast. Same as my previous 8c/16t i7 Intel Mac.

Engine DJ is Faster than Serato in my case. Serato DJ is not optimized for m4a analysis on Windows and it crawls to a miserable speed when it encounters any of those files in my library.

PS

I would be surprised if Virtual DJ is not optimized for SMT.

Ok, but what do you think in terms of mixing and syncing three or four tracks, equalizing, effects, harmonic mixing, recording same time, latency, asio drivers, etc. with all software like serato, Traktor, VDJ?

I think there is a mix of things at play - CPU, Ram and GPU.

I have a barebones i7 Dell XPS 13 with one of those Intel U processors. It struggles a lot with intense tasks like analysis and pitching.

So stay away from any processor ending with a U. I believe they are low powered.

The M2Pro on the other hand is 10c but easily the fastest laptop I’ve used for intensive tasks even in Rosetta ported apps. Apple’s witchcraft on full display.
