Copy library from Device to Laptop

Hi!

So today, due to the clusters&%^k that is MacOS26, I decide to do a clean install of my lappy and in the process…..deleted my engine library, not the tracks…just the library, playlist, cue points etc

Is there a way to copy the library I have on my device hdd (Prime 4) back to my laptop?

I tried Sync Manager but it didn’t seem to want to let me do it…TBH didn’t try a simple copy and paste….so may be that may be the way?

Or do I need to recreate the whole thing?

No. You can’t reverse copy the database back w/out some sort of script / external program to do so.

Do you have a time machine backup you could restore your db from?

my folder structure matches my library structure

gonna try reloading all the tracks, then syncing the “changes” I made

if not no biggie, i m a home dj so its only an inconvenience rather than a catastrophic impact to my work!

@djliquidice is correct, in that, you can’t put things back as they were with your files in the same original location.

When you sync the library from your computer to the hdd in the Prime 4, the music is reorganized* in /Engine Library/Music/ on the Prime 4. Your library database is in /Engine Library/Database2/ on the Prime 4. If you place the entire /Engine Library/ folder of the Prime 4 hdd on your computer where your current /Engine Library/ folder is, it should recognize the files that you synced to the Prime 4. This is because the Engine database references the music files via relative paths. It’s been a while, but I tested this. If you did a complete sync then everything will be there. If you only synced select playlists, then no you won’t have everything.

I’d consider this an emergency measure in the case that you completely lost all of your music.

*Your music will be completely reorganized in folders by artist/album/track in the /Engine Library/Music/ folder, which is less than ideal. IMO, your music should not reside in the /Engine Library/ folder, but be somewhere else in your Music folder on the computer. All of my music is in ‘/Users/[my user name]/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/’. This is a path that is recognized by multiple dj programs.

You may be better off doing what that.

Of course, backup everything before doing anything.
