continuous playing in Engine DJ

Dear friends and colleagues, hi! Can you please tell me if you hope to implement continuous playing in the desktop version of the Engine DJ application?

To tell you the truth - the lack of this and quite a simple function is very frustrating…

You sold me 2 decks SC6000 - they’re great, they’re great, but how do you serve music?

You’ve short-circuited (Engine DJ) everything - the tracks database with playlists is in a proprietary format. The software doesn’t keep track of the files - the only method of organization and management is playlists.

I’ve put together a playlist for the week - a couple hundred tracks and need to leave 40-60… for the next gig - the music has to be listened to. We have to turn it on and listen to it, but how?

Are you suggesting to export to a flash drive or directly to a deck (if SSD is installed) and listen from it and then sync back what you liked? Well, this is not the most pleasant and easy workflow. It would be much more convenient if you could just listen to all the music at once in a row and prepare the material for the performance without using other, additional devices.

Please add continuous playing to Engine DJ!

Engine DJ is just a prep software for the players and a library database. It’s not a performance software.

continuous playing I not a performance feature - it’s actually prepare feature.

Really? Tracks are prepared on an individual basis, so please explain how continuous play is a preparation feature.

very simple - when you listen to a track - you remember 2-3-4 previous tracks at most, you have to constantly go back to see if you lost the mood… continuous playing will help to give a general understanding of the mood of the current playlist at the output

Or make the playlist (using your raw files) and play it on Windows media player or similar via mac

No need to export anything until you got your order you want nailed down.

Now I have to do that, but it’s not comfortable, to say the least.

Oh, you’re talking about preplanning your set, I see. I freestyle and read the crowd, sorry.

I don’t use Engine PC on Windows as a free playback tool, so I probably wouldn’t need continuous playback in Engine DJ.

I do, of course, use continuous playback on the physical decks themselves for playing playlists during buffet breaks, cocktail hour etc

When I’m using Engine DJ, I rarely listen to each track in real time, not all the way from 00:00 to the last dying note at the end. Instead I’ll be using the standard mouse to needle drop onto “interesting” sections of each track to listen to breakdowns, instrumental sections, bass drops, crescendo/busy sections etc - it’s then perfect to just to then click on the next track down to preview that - it’s extremely unlikely that I’m going to start listening to track 7 by letting track 6 run out to the end.

Sorry

What’s up @sergey.afonin,

I haven’t checked if it’s already a feature request, but if not, I suggest submitting it. I can see where it would be a handy tool for some DJs. Granted, Engine DJ is not a DJ Performance software, but both Serato and Rekordbox DJ have an autoplay feature while using them offline/music prep.

I personally listen to a playlist with another app like vnc or media player while working in engine. But that said it’s also confusing to some to listen to one track while working on another. Engine will play the two tracks side by side happily. Then note the tracks to add to playlist later.
