I use Channel 3 to play Samples. Typically, this channel has the left/FX 1 active. This means that the Channel 3 FX1 light is on a lot.
I’ve noticed that this light is significantly less bright than the other buttons, including the FX1 on the other channels. While I know LEDs can fade over time, typically we’re talking in the range of tens of thousands of hours before these concerns become apparent (ie: 50,000).
Does anybody know what LEDs were used in the Prime 4+?
Do we know the Lifetime Measurement for these LEDs? ie: L70, L50
Assuming high quality LEDs were used with respectable lifetime expectations, is this happening due to changes in lighting causing the LEDs to be overdriven and have much shorter life expectancy?
This device has been in use for less than a year and a half and seeing an LED half as bright as all of the other ones in such a short timespan is concerning to me.
Thanks for any information you can provide. I’ll try to add a video demonstrating the difference soon.
That’s the first time I read something like that on the Denon devices (ruling out ‘too dim by design and fixed by software’). As you correctly stated, the pure lifespan of a typical LED easily surpass >10 years of heavy use. My geeky father (RIP) installed red ‘guidance’ LEDs in the side cladding of our indoor stairwell, and they are still fine since 2003 - nonstop lit, except the very rare power outages in Germany (only a train arriving on time is rarer here).
LEDs absolutely don’t like heat, of course. But in that regard, all other FX switches sit closer to the PSU than FX1 on Ch3, which is located on the left outside.
If it was all of them, I would likely have not noticed, but since it’s just one, and the one I leave lit the most, I was curious if with all the people complaining about the dimness of LEDs, if Denon decided to overdrive these LEDs to produce more light.
Distant, both FX 1 are ON, but Channel 3 LED is dim compared to Channel 1.
Please continue posting if you experience this issue. inMusic claims this isn’t a common enough issue to help me with the fix.
I absolutely expected this equipment to last longer than 2 years without issues. I’d understand a moving part like a fader needing replacement, but it looks like I’m stuck with defective hardware.
