BPM fluctuations on channels 1 and 3 of the SC Live 4, OS 4.1

Hello, dear Denon DJ team :raising_hand_woman:t2:

since the latest update from 4.0.1 to 4.1 the SC Live 4 shows BPM fluctuations on the platter display for channels 1 and 3. The final digit seems to jump, for example between the values 155.15 and 155.18. Setting the BPM to something like 155.99 makes the fluctuation easier to spot, since more digits of the BPM value change. It looks like a bug, so this is supposed to be a bug report :bug: … the SC Live 4 was is stand-alone mode, tracks came from an external SSD plugged in via USB, nothing else was connected.

I am not sure if the fluctuation affects the actual BPM of the playing track or if it is just a display thing. And I am not aware of anything that triggers or prevents these fluctuations, they seem random to me … I have not seen them on channels 2 and 4.

The BPM fluctuation has been seen and confirmed by forum users @tAz-07, @Charvel and @Matteo.

Thank you for looking into this matter! :pray:t2: :purple_heart:

I’ve had the same problem. I’ve noticed that SYNC needs to be activated on both decks. I believe the issue is that one of the decks remains as the LEAD, even when you’re adjusting the pitch on the other.

The previous behavior was that, with SYNC activated, the deck adjusting the pitch was considered the LEAD, and the other one would follow.

This is clearly a BUG. I’ve been DJing since this equipment was launched, and this feature used to work perfectly.

I’m uploading a video about this behavior.

Moin @Parysatis,

could it be —I only assume— that the analyze of the BPM in Vers 4.1. is a little bit more precise than in earlier versions?

If you have some larger jumps in your tracks, the shown BPM always differ, now I think even incremental shiftings are shown.

Phps this may be the reason…

Then it would affect channels 2 and 4 as well. I have not seen any fluctuation there.

moin @Parysatis,

I only assumed. Phps try it out with the same tracks by loading them twice (double touch of the load pad)

I myself had some trouble with tracks, which were ammended by the beatgrid tool. When I beatmatched, both platters were on “sync”, all tracks were speeded up, but didn’t fall back to the right BPM when the part of improvement had been passed. And the display of the BPM were always shifting in large differences. And unfortunately the speed didn’t shift back, the tracks had been in a hurry, so I to load the tracks again and restarted the transition. Laughter and flabbergasting from the folk

Good luck, enjoy your mixes Brgds BeatMaster

Such fluctuations could happen on a device with a motorized platter due to the wow & flutter phenomenon related to the rotation of the motor. Most motorized units integrate a smoothing algorithm for these fluctuations to precisely prevent these micro variations from affecting the playback of the track and being reflected on the screen.

But on static platter units, this should clearly not happen. So it seems to be an obvious bug rather than something intended.

Moin @Gaian,

thanks for your explanation.

So let’s report on DENON and hope that they will take care on their earliest convenience. Phps they will amend as well what I have described above.

Hi folks.

Same bug here.

Updated yesterday to the latest firmware.

I can confirm that the fluctuations issue happens only on the left deck and is very annoying.

After trying to update again via stick over the OTA version with no success on fix, I made a rollback to the previous version using a USB stick and now my SC Live 4 is performing as intended in both decks.

Waiting for the fix to do the update.

Thanks in advance.

Link to video for reference of this issue. No perceptible speed fluctuations which would be very minor in any case. Still an issue that needs to be addressed.

I have also done a video to highlight the issue

An issue certainly not due to track BPM fluctuations. Can confirm this glitch and observed this on my deck 3. Very small increments (0.02) at the lower 4/8 pitchranges, but much bigger ones (0.16) and more frequent when I moved the pitch towards +50%.

Happens during playback and pause mode, in Pitch and Vinyl mode, no matter the Sync status. When cueing up the ‘glitchy frame’ it behaves not consistent, aka the spot moves.

Seems related to 4.1 and hopefully can be fixed without too much headache.

I am having the same issue as described by others here. Just throwing my comment in to keep traction on this issue.

Same issue here. As described, it only happens in deck 1/3, with a fluctuation btetween 0.02 (I work with a pitch adjustment about 10%).

I have exactly the same problem since the last update. My jog wheel bpm display keeps fluctuating on the left deck on my SC Live 4! Very annoying!

fwiw, when i downgraded back to 4.0.1, the issue went away.

to upgrade to 4.0.1 (well downgrade) via usb: download this file, put it in the root folder of a usb drive, put the drive in the sc live 4, go to settings->update->update-> pick the “update from usb drive” option.

I have opened a ticket regarding this issue with DENON support. Perhaps if everyone submits a support request, they might consider releasing a quick update to fix the bug.

Hi Javier,

Thanks for your input. I also opened a ticket when I started this thread. I guess the Denon DJ team is aware of the bug by now. I am not sure if everyone flooding their team with more requests will help, because the next update will probably fix the problem and as far as I know there is currently no solution other than downgrading to a previous version.
