Hello, I introduce myself, I’m Sergio, I wanted to explain my problem like that of thousands of people, it remains unresolved. The recording is bad, we have been comparing with xdj-xz. We have been testing it in every possible way, it lacks clarity, cleaner treble, greater bass, it is impossible for me to configure the gain to obtain a loud and clear sound, I would like to know recording tips. My monitors are Yamaha Hs7. I also had the x1800 where I could configure the cue buttons to turn them off when not in use, in the prime4 + they are always on even if they are not used, they should be off, this creates confusion for DJs who do not play with Denon, and for me many times already I also play with Pioneer and this doesn’t happen. Forgive my English, I’m Spanish. Thanks for the help
Hi Sergio
I have a Prime 2 so similar to your device (although possibly different). I run my channel VU meters up to 2 lights from the top, which some would say is quite high, but its worked for me at many gigs and events over the time ive owned the device.
Once ive finished recording i pull the WAV file from the SD card i record to and run it through Audacity, at which point i normalise it to 0db with Stereo channels normalised independently. To my ear this produces a nice clear sound with plenty of detail across the EQ spectrum. You have to normalise the recording as the base file is flat.
I also nearly always run my channel EQs at 12 oclock when ive fully mixed in, playing the track as intended.
Here is a recent mix i did on the Prime 2, i recorded my full live set at the weekend but haven’t uploaded it yet.
For the cue button issue, im not sure how i can help there as i don’t understand the problem? what do you mean by ‘always on’?
Perhaps a video to show what the issue is.
Same for me, it sounds clear to me too on my Prime 4+. I am too running normalise after recording.
Her is my latest mix done on prime 4+
Sounds good to me through my Sennheiser work headphones Eric… what level do you run your channel meters?
Around 0db
After basic normalising and cuting start and end silense i am also running mastering on landr.
Hi there,
I record on an internal SSD in my Prime 4+ after which I copy the mix to my pc where I “Normalize” the sound using Oceanaudio - works just fine
Sorry if I’ve taken so long to answer. With the Xdj Xz you don’t have to use Audacity, the mix comes out in Wav format with an impressive quality. I don’t like using Audacity, Denon Prime4+ should have enough recording quality to not use external programs. I use the equalization exactly the same as you, without distorting. Regarding the cue buttons… it’s very simple, they are always lit, if you press them they light up more, but it’s a constant confusion, the cue buttons should be off until you press them, in Pioneer they are slightly lit, you can barely see the light, and when you press them they light up much more. I think they need improvements, the options that the X1800 and X1850 had in the menu are better than everything they have included that is useless, more than half of the options are not used.
It doesn’t have enough quality, with my studio monitors it doesn’t have clarity, I have some Yamaha Hs7, it’s not the best in the world but they stand out for their brilliance, although it lacks bass. It doesn’t sound the same as when it is recorded, it sounds very very good even at very high volume but in recording it is poor, with Audacity it loses even more quality I need a better editor. It should be at the level of xdj xz and in this aspect it is not. Sorry if I can’t be understood, I’m Spanish
I don’t really like free editing programs. Denon needs to update this feature and stop adding useless stuff, recording is more important than making a great menu.
Esto suena mucho mejor
Stream Neno& Vids- BoomBases EP by HardMakersMusic | Listen online for free on SoundCloud Pioneer XDJ XZ sin editar nada, notas la nitidez? incluso altos bpm tiene un gran grave, imposible comparar esto con sclive 2 o prime4
You don’t need to use Audacity, the quality is good enough and with the latest firmware the level is good enough. Have tried with XDJ XZ but it was a long time ago and I was not impressed at all. Now I have no one around to compare it to.
I never commented on the part with the cue buttons but ok, if you mean the backlight, it’s perfectly ok in my opinion. I have played on both XDJ-XZ and Prime 4 for several years and have absolutely no problems on any of the machines’ cue buttons.
Maybe you haven’t tried professional mixers. The Denon and Pioneer buttons turn off completely, and you can configure them to leave them on or off. They’re always off until you press them. As for the recording sound, the XDJ XZ has a much better recording than the Denon Prime4+. In Prime 4+ it sounds low and not clear. Maybe you haven’t tried it updated, but the Pioneer sounds much better in recording.
The prime4+ needs to reduce useless options on the screen that consume memory, and add functions of a real DJ booth. The options shown on the screen are not fully functional. There are 80% of visibility or aesthetic adjustment functions and 20% of mixer adjustments. There are no sound adjustments or recording settings. It may seem comfortable and nice, but this has no value. That’s why it’s better to work with Pioneer. You can modify the input and output decibels and other professional parameters. Denon is more attractive with a more elegant interface, but I need real tools from Denon mixers.
