as per the title, I am coming from Traktor, with my new Prime Go. before Traktor, I was using CDJ 1000 MK3, and before CDJs vinyl, so yes I am old!
I am looking for the best resources, recommended by the community, on where to start. I have watched a few vids on YouTube, but keen to hear what users say are the best.
I am new to the world of ‘beat grids’ as Traktor does it all for me, so would also be keen to see what you recommend around this new approach as well.
You should use the Engine Desktop app to import all your music, analyse it then export to a media device for plugging into the Prime Go. Engine Desktop works in much the same way as other DJ software. You will however need to edit some beat grids, a user guide for the desktop software is available below, also the user guide for your device will show you how to edit them whilst DJing.
Hi Rich, I did the switch from traktor to denon this summer. I used the export tool through engine to do it. Everything was fairly easy and straight forward. Only thing i recommend is to do a trial run with only one playlist the first time, this way you can make sure everything is to your liking.
For the most part my beat grids were fine. I have definitely come across a bunch that i needed to edit on the fly, but it is pretty easy to change them. Check out this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRblkffypmU. If you play music with live instruments your beatgrids will ■■■■, but its the same situation with traktor.
Cheers. Engine has been a bit goofy and added duplicates, removed tracks, or added tracks that were not in the og playlists, and decided to try Lexicon, which in all honesty is fine but I won’t be keeping my subscription going.
I’m going to recreate my playlists on my card using folders for each one, and then I’ll manually create playlists on the Go. It’s a faff but it’ll serve two things- it’ll get my playlists in the way I want them, and it’ll force me to manage my lists a bit better!
Not a fan of the red tracks and the lack of being able to easily bulk remove, and the same goes for not being able to convert the prepare playlist to an actual playlist, but it would seem that I’m not the only one!
Very happy with the unit though and beatgridding on the fly for the odd one that isn’t quite right, is a breeze.
I do agree with the one benefit of all this is forcing me to reorganize my library! I’m going to get lexicon one of these days to hopefully speed up that process. I tried the free trial of MIXO and didnt love it. Looks like lexicon has a nicer interface and more bells & whistles - im interested to see how the mobile app works.
