a question from a layman: in the near future, will it be possible to do our research on all-in-one equipment covering all sources?, USB1, USB2, INTERNAL SSD and any other connected source as we do in Windows and IOS?, as it is today, the system only works connected to a single source, right?, if we are connected to the internal SSD and want to use music from a pendrive, we need to switch the source.
It’s technically possible for the SoCs to mount multiple USB storage devices, though the software doesn’t allow for that to happen for good reason: Like you need to switch CDs, Records you still need to eject storage when removing and switch context when choosing databases. Otherwise, you’d have people pulling their media out of the USB socket, corrupting the database and then blaming Engine.
I don’t think this is a good reason @djliquidice , because in both Windows and iOS, if we pull out a pendrive without ejecting it, we run the same risk of corruption, yet no one goes around blaming Microsoft or Apple.
It’s because the system uses databases, and each source has its own dedicated database, so when you switch sources, you are actually switching databases.
You can’t have just one central database because sources come and go.
I raised this discussion to understand and perhaps even change this. After all, as users, we have to give our feedback so that Denon can continually improve its products. Wedding DJs and 15th birthday DJs know how difficult it is to have a different playlist and different songs for the ceremony every week. In my case, I bring my notebook and flash drive to work and prepare during the week and during the day. Therefore, my main collection is on the internal SSD. At the time of the event, it is very annoying to have to change the media all the time for research. It would be great if all the media were connected and it was possible to access them for research and even load music from any source without having to switch.
If you want this feature request, then please post as such =)
Currently you can fill your prepare list with songs from different sources / databases.
Yup, all other DJs don’t have a clue what it’s like to have a busy schedule where they have to manage different playlists.
Actually plenty of people do this all the time.
The problem ultimately is how little people know about these complex digital machines we call computers. Speaking from what I’ve seen here and on Reddit:
Some of the reasons Engine DJ is blamed:
- Loss of data when a storage device is improperly disconnected
- Loss of data when low-cost storage devices (SD cards) are used and degrade
- Slow transfer speeds when they don’t understand that how media works
- Loss of data when their primary storage dies (laptop, etc.) while they don’t practice good backup strategy
I think that switching the source is the best user experience all-around. While these media players run Linux, they are far from General Purpose computing devices.
Also isn’t the function of switching sources what all of the other media players do?
I did it! @djliquidice
