I have a Numark Mixstream Pro Go and I use Engine Dj for windows to put songs onto a USB key that I then plug in my Mixstream Pro Go.
For a few months now, all the tracks I have been uploading have appeared red in the controller while not appearing red in Engine Dj on my computer. I only have access to the songs uploaded before some faithful day in april of this year when the controller or the computer stopped recognizing them for an unknown reason.
I’ve tried everything from changing USB keys, trying to reanalyze and reimport the track information of the problematic songs, factory reseting the controller and even deleting all my library and uploading it again into Engine Dj on my computer and nothing seems to work. To my knowledge, I haven’t moved the file where I keep my music on my computer either (only moving it on my desktop).
I use a Mixstream pro go & windows 11 so I’ll try to help, but all I can do is explain how I do it which is probably different to a lot of people on here.
I’m running os 4.2 on both hardware & software as this is the most stable for me & there seems to be a few bugs in the later updates (not sure if this is causing your issues) but personally I would reset & downgrade both.
I keep my main music folder away from engine os so I’ll copy my tunes into another temporary folder, from there I’ll drag them into engine os, once analysed & sorted etc I’ll export to usb/sd card & correctly eject device from the laptop & plug it into my mixstream to check if all is good.
Now I’ll return to desktop & delete/rename the temporary folder with my copied music in & launch engine os, engine os will launch with loads of red files because I’ve deleted/renamed the source folder, (this is my plan so all good) I’ll delete all red files from engine os (this won’t delete files off your desktop) then I’ll plug back in the usb/sd card that I exported all my tunes to & engine os will see the usb/sd card as the source folder & all tunes should be white.
To add extra music to your usb/sd simply plug it into your laptop & repeat steps 2 & 3.
Make sure you use a decent usb/sd card 3.0/3.2, use a good named brand & buy from a reputable dealer (even amazon is known for selling fakes) make sure it’s correctly formatted, if you want to make a backup of your music on your usb/card simply plug it in to your laptop & copy it’s contents onto your desktop &/or another device & remember to keep it upto date so at least if you lose your music you can just copy the backup straight onto a new usb/sd card.
As I said I don’t work directly with my music folders so if I turn on engine on my laptop now there will be no music on it because I strictly keep my main music away from it & work off usb/sd cards, also I don’t save my dj profile to any device either.
Others on here probably do things differently but this works for me & I’ve had no issues (apart from a faulty usb but I had my backups) which I update once a week/month depending on how many changes I’ve made.
if you moved the music to the desktop it’s normal that it doesn’t work anymore! either you put it back where it was before or you have to tell Engine where you put the files, or you delete the whole library on Engine and then reload it, but it’s a long job depending on how many songs you have!
It was already on the desktop but I only maybe moved it from one place on the desktop to another. When I click “Show in Explorer” in Engine Dj on my laptop for a tune that reads red on my controller it recognizes where it is on my laptop but it still reads red on my controller.
It’s well known that it doesn’t work like this! You have to delete the red traces and reload them! Or you move them to where they were before, that is, you remove them from the desktop and put them back in the old position! It worked for me!
Here are some ideas which you may have already tread on. But, just in case…
@djveleno is correct. Except, it seems if you moved the files, Engine DJ laptop should have lost track of them and they would be red. You said you deleted the library and uploaded it again, so maybe that is why they are recognized. To scrutinize, you could open the drive, filename and directory columns in Engine DJ and see where it thinks the files are located. To open those, right-click on the header line and select these fields in the list.
You may also look at those fields on your controller to see where it is looking for the files. Then compare that to the files in the /Engine Library/Music/ folder on the USB. Are the files there? If not, and they are, indeed, recognized on the laptop, you have a sync problem. Make sure you have the playlists checked when you sync.
Another thing to consider is that certain characters in filenames (and folder names) will work ok in Engine DJ on your computer, but are not allowed in exFAT or FAT32 filenames or paths. Engine DJ usually corrects this when you sync, but a few things slip by. You might see a pattern on the controller/USB for those filenames and paths. Sync reorganizes your music files in /Engine Library/Music/ based on Artist, Album.
