Union Audio have done what we all suspected and taken over the MS mixer designs, and added steroids, lots of steroids!!! Look at that 4 channel with FX built in
Looks very cool as rotary knob design, I heard on the internet someone already replaced some Pioneer standard faders to knobs and it looks like rotary mixer too. I’m not a big fan of this modern design but it’s possible to replace studio mixer faders into dj long faders?
Pioneer used to do rotary kits for their own mixers. The DJM-800 and 1000 if I recall.
I’m now of the opinion that for house music you don’t even need EQ after using the Radius 4 for the past few years.
If you’re going to choose a rotary mixer, you might as well choose an analog mixer with a really warm sound rather than the cold sound of the Pioneer units of that era, especially the 800 which really sounds digital even if the 1000 isn’t much better.
Fully agree on that
Why do people feel that a certain type of volume fader is to be used exclusively with analog gear?
I have a Rane 2015 and it’s a beast. I have also thought about getting a rotary kit for my V10.
There are so many factors in the signal chain that will have at least the same, if not a bigger impact on overall sound (e.g. bad cables, bad records, bad rips, bad needles, bad speakers) than the mixer itself.
Oh sure you are free to use a rotary kit with any mixer you want. It certainly makes more sense on newer mixers like the V10 which probably sound better than the horrible cold digital sound of the old djm 800.
I just mean that given the choice between putting a rotary kit on a djm 800 and considering an analogue rotary mixer like a radius or a Play Differently, or even a rane MP 2015 is certainly a more sensible choice
I agree with both counts, but Gaian does have a good point around those old Pioneer mixers, its kind of like polishing a ■■■■ by putting a Rotary kit on them, when for the same/similar price you could go down the route of a much better mixer (like your Rane for example)
Apologies for being triggered I probably should leave certain facebook groups and subreddits. The snobbery among rotary users is real!
You guys are absolutely right. The DJM-800 isn’t something I’d put a rotary kit in!
Yeah there is defo some (a lot) of snobbery in rotary world. I don’t subscribe to most of it.
I’m convinced at least 70% of people in that rotary Reddit are just fantasists though. In fact having a scour around and seeing the comments they leave, I think I’ve found a new kind of troll, ‘luxury goods trolls’, lurking about online pretending to own things they deem as desirable.
Actually scratch that, Reddit itself is just poison full stop, basement dwellers galore.
