Hi
I’ve had Denon X1800 for a while now and it used to work perfectly and that’s until i had a sound issue, so i have bought a new X1850 and since i got it I’ve had an issue with it where random buttons light up and channel input selection changes randomly, here are 2 videos showing the X1850 weird behavior:
This video shows the channel input randomly changed selection:
This video shows the mic button randomly lighting up:
My Denon X1850 has been at the repair shop for months now and no body knows what’s wrong, they tested it for days without re-creating any issues viewed in the videos.
I got my X1800 sound issue fixed and I’ve been using it ever since i sent the X1850 for repairs, but recently the same issue happened a couple of times, random buttons light up (effect buttons, mic buttons), no random channel input selections though.
This video shows the effect button randomly lights up while i was DJing:
There is a very weird issue happening and no one at the repair shop knows how or why its happening, has it happened to anyone before? What could be wrong?
I’m guessing as it happens at your location but not elsewhere, it could be a problem with your mains electricity supply. Try plugging your kit into a mains filter/power conditioner or even a UPS.
Thanks for your reply
I do always use a UPS which has the mixer and players connected to it only and i use a voltage regulator / protection device for the speakers and other devices.
Yeah, if the UPS is always “active” but doesn’t produce a “pure sine wave” (or whatever it’s called, it’s been a loooong time since I bought an UPS) it can introduce weird interference.
I had it with my previous UPS, when it activated you’d hear a very noticeable humming from the PC (probably from the power supply specifically, but I could never pinpoint)
I think this is the key focus in this situation - if the mixer doesn’t do anything wrong when it’s away from your home location and has all you bits plugged into it - I’d start with having your mixer plugged into the mains wall socket, with nothing else plugged into it , no speakers, no decks, no laptop , no effects units, zilch, zero, nadda just the mixer and its power cord …. Leave it on, see if the flickering lights occur. If no flickery lights… add one thing back at a time (and especially on the powered speakers …. Label them up as speaker 1 and speaker 2 , or next and right or wolverine and storm or anything to distinguish them and run each connected product for a few days to see if the flickering kicks off.
Some “odd” things which I’ve encountered on various peoples gear::
powered speakers (with their own amplifier built in) can become faulty, still work and sound fine but can send actual voltage backward down the signal cable to the mixers master out connectors, where the only passage of signal is supposed to be OUt not IN …. All sorts of wierd stuff can be triggered and damaged by power speakers sending voltage down the line….
as above but with faulty amplifiers sending direct current back into the mixer outputs
power leads or power multiway sockets (4 way, 8 way etc) which have lost their Earth connection (or used to belong to some crazy idiotic laptop owner who had snipped the Earth/ground cables in their mains leads to stop Earth hum / ground loop hum - replace such leads
some laptops send grounding issues back to a mixer via the laptop USB connectors - again that unexpected signal coming in can cause havoc
avoid plugging in anything other than mics into the mic sockets - they might “look” like the sockets on a stage mixer where electric guitars plug into , but they’re different
I’m not saying that you’ve done any of the above things , just showing how odd some external factors can be
Thank you for the information
I will test it out more and see what happens, i normally use USB only no laptop or anything extra connected, just two SC6000 players and the mixer.
