$9.99 for stems?! Outrageous

…ly cheap really. All things considered.

It’s a pretty good deal. Even though I’m not a stems fanboy, at that price for a one-time licence that covers my three devices… well, it would be rude not to take up the offer.

Now, if my devices aren’t compatible with Stems playback, I won’t be heartbroken, but in any case cheers to Denon DJ for going down the one-time-licence route rather than subscription model.

Well said!

I might even do it even if my players aint supported… Just to support the Devs in their effort. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think it is totaly ok for Denon to provide, for example, few years of included upgrades after device purchase, and then charge one time fee like this per major feature.

I am extremly happy and gratefull how many new features has my gear gotten, sense I got it(version 1.4 I believe)

So if charging a small fee motivates inmusic to upgrade older devices, I am all for it!

I hate subscription model!

I find it ok, the price for one or two albums on Bandcamp. I will happily try out the new stems feature.

Hello everyone, I’ve had a look at the stems and I have to admit that I haven’t been able to test much yet, but on my Prime 4+ the stems are definitely not worth 10 dollars.

Once you have created the stems you can’t even preview them in Prime Desktop. You always have to export them first and then you can check them on the Prime 4+.

And well, the quality is of course always subjective, but for me it’s not worth 10 dollars. But I’m not really surprised that sound analysis has always been a problem here.

Yea   :joy: But joke aside, I believe inMusic is still feeling out the crowd and looking for a right model to continue.

When I purchased my prime 4, 4 years ago it was miles ahead of competition, 4 years latter it still is, that is saying something!

Yeah, Prime 4 is still the best purchase any DJ could have done in 2019. I think the launch price was €1.500 + tax. So to get the new STEMS feature for €10 extra is just amazing.

I see that the investment is connected to Engine Profile. What if I have the Prime 4+ at home and I play in venues with SC6000’s. Do I still need to pay €10?

EDIT: I accidentally deleted too much when editing. I deleted a bit at the start that said…

[Once you’ve paid $10] you get four devices when you’re logged in. That will give you enough for your needs.

As it’s done via your profile you just log out of the machines you’ve played on that aren’t yours.

There’s a need to connect to the internet once every 28 days to refresh your licence which helps to keep abuse down.

I’m not sure how the four Engine OS devices are logged on your profile though. I don’t know if you have to deauthorise them in your profile to activate another or if it is done automatically when you log out of your profile.

If you’re touring DJ and play on different Denon DJ gear weekly (probably highly unlikely) you may have to stay on top of de-authorisations but other that you most probably won’t run into problems.

…if you pay for the license, yes. Not sure if that applies to 4+ users.

It doesn’t transfer to other hardware

Honestly, I expected the stems plug-in to cost more. It’s less than a monthly subscription for many softwares. If it’s not trivial for you, go USA-style…

Look at serato and its extensions. Additional fx? pay, Serato flip? -pay, serato play? -pay. It costs $9.99 per month. So I think that in the case of Denon, the one-time price of $9.99 is nothing compared to others

If you don’t want it, don’t buy it—it’s that simple. I don’t understand where the issue lies. If Denon hadn’t released updates and brought out one, two, or three new products since the launch of the Prime Go or Prime 4, it would have cost us much more in terms of buying and reselling equipment than a mere $10. Instead, we’ve all benefited from the evolution of our gear over the years. Personally, apart from the lack of Bluetooth on my Prime 4, I have access to all the new features. Paying for the stems doesn’t seem unreasonable to me—on the contrary, the Denon team deserves our support for all the developments they’ve released and will continue to release. Of course, you’re free not to pay and not to take advantage of the stems. Besides, four devices are eligible, making it feel like Black Friday every day with Denon!

Aren’t they free for your Prime 4+?

Not gonna argue with your pointing out of limitations though. I’ve never been a big fan of stems before, and I’ve used them on Traktor D2 hardware, which not only show you stem waveforms on the player screen, but have independent fader and filter controls for each stem channel.

So if you are really, really into stems, Traktor plus a Traktor controller (like adding a Kontrol F1) gives you total granular control. But I found having so much control really fussy to use while live mixing for an audience, so I just ended up isolating elements by cutting the percussion etc… which is what you can do on Denon hardware now.

I still have no problem whatsoever with pre-processing stems on a laptop first rather than “live” stems, but the highest priority missing component is being able to preview stem channels on Engine DJ desktop while you’re reviewing your playlists. Hopefully that feature is already in the development pipeline.

If Denon can figure out a way with the streaming providers to have a local cache of playlists that can be pre-processed, that would get around more than one streaming issue (the other one being not having an internet connection at a venue).

Hi TJDJ,

well, the operation of the stems leaves a lot to be desired with Denon.

Personally, I wouldn’t use Traktor, but Djay Pro, where you are miles ahead with the handling of stems and their operation. Real-time music source separation and so on. So I will castrate my Prime4+ to a midi controller and yes, I know that everything is much cheaper. tata
