3.1.1 Update failure - SC Live 4

Just updating to 3.1.1 on my SC Live 4 (via Web) - Shows a fatal download error and says not to power off. - I’m guessing I’m going to have to power it off as there doesn’t appear to be any way of getting off of this screen. Any Ideas? Last thing I want to do is brick it.

I rebooted it, came back up on 3.1.0 so trying again :crossed_fingers:

I would think that it’s just a download error and the live 4 wasn’t installing yet? Then rebooting the SC4 would not be a problem. I can be wrong however .

Yeah that was my thinking, the update script could probably use a bit of a tweak to accommodate for that specific exit code and advise a power cycle is safe as it terminated before the update commenced.

Updated fine 2nd time round. I think the issue is poor wifi signal for the download which is strange because the unit it literally about 6 foot away from my router. I just moved property and I’m using the provider supplied router (Now Broadband) All of my other devices around the apartment have full wifi signal but the SC Live 4 has one one bar in the indicator. Prior to moving I used a mesh system which gave the SC Live full signal. The mesh routers seem a bit over kill for my current property but I might hook them up just to test.

Don’t use wifi for update ! That’s it !

yeah. i definitely would suggest downloading the image onto a USB Drive. Hard wired to your network or bust.

I used install over WiFi once, takes a long time with a few time-outs. I always recommand using an USB.

While I would tend to agree with this at the moment (considering my current wifi issue) Generally speaking I find the update over Web option is the most convenient and fastest option, going off previous experiences.

I have that same router. It’s hot garbage. It can hardly get though a few meters of air and my Ring cameras always report a low WiFi signal.

Glad you got it sorted. As long as it’s not started to apply the update it’s all good.

I find it’s quicker in these newer releases.

What I’ve noticed that sometimes over wifi updates it sometimes doesn’t pick up the newest update and reinstalls the current one. Happened to me quite a few times and then second time I do it, it does.

However no real issues in any updates failing via Wi-Fi and I find it’s easier and way more convenient.

It’s standalone!!! And I want it standalone for updates too lol no laptop :sunglasses:

Spill the beans, which Router?

Get an ethernet to USB dongle, and plug into USB port on the back. That’s how I have mine connected.

It’s the Now TV/Sky router. Not sure of the manufacturer but it’s not a good router.

I want to get another but it’s against this terms and conditions to change it. May just do it.

Hmmmm, I can never get my head around why sky continually send out naff routers with their broadband, they always have done. Is it T-Link or something?

Anyway I can’t say too much as it’s potentially a conflict of interest:) but the number one broadband providers hardware is more reliable

With EE backup too haha
