2.0 FW "Unsupported File Type" error for all tracks

Hi all, Have updated to 2.0 FW and whenever trying to load tracks, “Unsupported File Type” comes up. IU can see all tracks in crates/playlists etc. Engine Prime shows that they are compatible with MCX. All tracks worked on 1.5 FW. Entire library is in AAC.

Have contacted Denon support twice, still no help from there.

Any suggestions?

I also have some aif track “unsupported File Type” warning is doing. Search plays the same track.

Hi @leo.schumacher37 did you export the tracks as mentioned in the update video?

Right deck ‘unsupported File Type’ warning, the left deck without error loading and playing. it does some very few tracks.

Hi @Chloe_DENONDJ Yes, I have pressed “Export to MCX8000” and waited for process to finish.

As far as I am aware, my process is correct. It is as follows:

Analyse tracks in Engine Prime on hardware collection

Move to collection (or crate) of FAT32 USB thumbdrive

(With MCX Compatibility set to “ON” in settings window) export to MCX 8000

But then the MCX Compatible window would be blank, right?

Also, these all work on 8000 when firmware is rolled back to 1.5 and files are analysed in Engine 1.5

I have yet to experiment with Serato, following this FW update

@Chloe_DENONDJ Still haven’t gotten this to work! Emailed support a week ago no reply cmon guys!!

Hi @leo.schumacher37 I do apologise about this. Please message me your contact details & I will inform the Service manager

Hi, I am having the same issue. At least 20% of songs loaded on my Fat 32 USB have the error unsupported file type. I did the same process as above and exported to MCX8000. I tried downloading some of the songs again and adding a Fresh MP3 but have the same issue.

@dcosack unfortunately, my fix for this issue was to convert my entire library to .mp3 from AAC. This solved the problem. It appeared to have been an issue with the encoding not being read by the 8k for whatever reason. Multiple calls back and forth with support (as well as forum posts and emails) yielded nothing. Supposedly the only update from 2.0 in latest firmware (v 2.1) was “fixing error reading some AAC files” which I assumed was to fix this very issue however, nothing had changed from 2.0. Still in the process of having to cue up my new mp3s :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Nevertheless, they play, so I’m surprised the error persists for you with .mp3. Have you tried other formats too? Does the issue persist with .wav etc?

Software error in progress. at least they should have done a little update. Looks like they don’t care if you look from the outside.

Oh yes, the problem still persist with wav. I am a newer dj and have never had decent gear before. Found out the hard way that mcx800 doesn’t support FLAC. All my music is in flac. Redownloaded hella music all in wav format. Having exact same issue with files still not able to play but show up fine. They are all wav. which i know is supported. After the huge headache of realizing I need to use older Engine software 1.5 to get things to work properly (&having some issues w that to be expected), buying new drive(cause i thought mine was broken due to engine issues), back formatting to fat32, then updating the firmware, this has been totally hell. Now I completely regret updating firmware and I can’t find 1.5 FW anywhere to go back to. Denon should offer old FW downloads for older gear considering they don’t seem to be interested in fixing issues for them. Honestly I’m starting to feel pretty salty I didn’t just go for pioneer at this point. It has taken me over a week to even get SOME files onto my usb and working properly with mcx8000.

The problem reported here was not with wav but with aif and aac files.

You need to make sure whatever encoder you use is creating files in a format the poor old mcx8000 can read:

  • WAV: 44.1kHz, 16bit/24bit Stereo.
  • AIFF: 44.1kHz, 16bit/24bit Stereo

You don’t need to use old Engine 1.5.2 software, Denon did update the newer Engine Prime until version 1.6.1 that was released on Jun 2021 (or whatever was the last version vas before 2.0) to work with 2.5 firmware on the unit.

Thanks for the feedback. Someone mentioned wondering if wav files were having similar issues that’s why I commented about wav. I’m downloading directly from bandcamp all wav files and only some of them show up as a supported format. I can’t understand why the format would be unreadable or different between each wav file from a verified reliable website that I’m paying for unless I’m missing something else there.

I will try using engine 1.6 to see if maybe that fixes things at all before I go back to old firmware thanks. But when I downloaded the new firmware there was some sort of error message when I updated “Display MCU Missing.” I thought it still updated but now I’m wondering if that cause an error and it didn’t update. Maybe this is the issue I’m really not sure at this point.

I know some of this has been due to my lack of experience/knowledge for sure, but trying to learn and troubleshoot engine software at the same time has been challenging. Comes w the territory I guess tho in all dj gear/programs and old gear.

You need to compare the wav files that play with ones that don’t and see whats the difference.

What is the best way to find the Hz and bitrate of a song file? Thanks
