What do you like and hate the most about the SC Live standalone?

Pros: Standalone Speakers Portability Effects

CONS: PERFORMANCE pads too stiff. Crossfader has gap with no sound. No tight curve.

Hi.

I have been using the denon sc live 4 for about a year. I decided to buy it because of the built-in speakers and four channels. It is very easy to use and has advanced functions and regular updates. It is easy to transport.

Disadvantages:

The build quality is not the best!

Potentiometers on channel 1 and 2, if I move them a little left and right horizontally, the volume drops, as if it were losing contact.

Another thing, the sound in the headphones suddenly disappears. When I turn the headphone volume knob from minimum to maximum, sometimes I have to repeat it several times, the sound comes back and everything works normally.

In short, it can be seen that the components are not the best.

In general, the thing is cool.

Things I like about my SC Live 4.

  • The fact it’s standalone. I hate having to keep a laptop updated specifically for mixing.
  • The design and layout I think is good.
  • The screen design is pretty good.
  • The feel of the controls.
  • The fact you can control lights directly on the unit.

Things I’d like to see improved in a version 2.

  • Bigger screen. And perhaps higher resolution.
  • Ability to have external audio routed into a fader channel for back 2 back mixing with other devices.
  • Better sounding FX. Flanger for example seems to drop the volume of the mix which is annoying. The Touch FX seem too strong, I prefer more subtle FX.
  • More responsive when selecting tracks. Sometimes clicking the preview there’s a delay. Sometime switching playlists isn’t particularly quick.
  • A top side USB port for pluging music sticks into.
  • Digital output option. Useful for recording on PC, streaming etc. Avoid all that Digital to analogue and back to digital annoyance. Be nice to just plug a USB cable to PC and send digital audio over that.

Things I don’t care for.

  • Streaming music services.
  • Bluetooth support.
  • Stems.

No pun intended of course, but you hate having a computer needed for mixing, while digital out would be handy for recording to a computer. :sunglasses:

Sorry, couldn’t help it… thanks for a good sum of improvements. :+1:t2:

Yeah I meant not needing the computer to produce the audio and run the mixing software.

Obv’s if I want to stream stuff with video I’m going to need a computer to do that. Plus we probably all use a computer to prepare our tracks on, but nice that it’s not needed just for the performance side of the SC Live.

I just like the standalone format. I’ve been down the laptop route, and it’s just annoying keeping it updated, yet making sure MS don’t turn on things that can compromise audio.

I’ve seen enough laptops, including MAC’s, crash in clubs.

Also quite a lot of amp’s, receivers, and even speakers often have digital inputs in these days. My Qaudio speakers support digital over USB.
