Can you provide more information, how big is your DB file? Have you updated both desktop and OS? Have you wiped your SSD and performed a clean install of your library since the update?
What model SSD are you using? Does it have 3D NAND.

Library size 270gb, about 35,000 songs. All Updated in version 3.1 I did clean formatting in FAT32 as recommended and the problem is not resolved.
SSD drive sansung T5 502mg read speed
Whatâs the size of the m.db file on the drive?
Iâd avoid FAT32 these days and just use FAT, I believe the FAT32 format was only ever meant for volumes of less than 32gb partition.
Can you try formatting as FAT only then see if itâs better.
An interesting observation, every person who reports issues with speed seem to be using Samsung SSD drives. It could be nothing but I use a WD Blue and mine has gone from slight delay to zero delay with 3.1. A smaller volume of tracks but at least half of mine are lossless so take up a lot of space.
Same vibes on Sandisk and Samsung.
Last I checked Western Digital makes Sandisk or they are the same company
Could it be they are using their cheaper offerings for the Sandisk brand then?
I got a WD Green to replace the broken HDD in my passport pro wireless and thatâs seen as a more budget friendly version of the blue, with the red being designed for NAS drives. I canât compare the two but the green SSD compared to the old blue HDD that was installed does seem a bit slower at syncing RAW files from a camera (we use it on holiday as a backup drive for photos)
The WD is cheap enough that people can get one and test it to see if there are performance improvements, in my eyes itâs less than half a gig of cash even for lowly bar DJs such as myself.
exFAT you mean, I presume.
Yeah thatâs the one Reese:)
Fat32 is the problem. The 4gb file size limit will become problematic as your db file will exceed that size with a large library. As others have mentioned, used ExFat & your problem will be solved. I had this exact issue.
I donât believe that the problem is the FAT32 format because the manufacturers themselves recommend this format. Doing some tests this week I found that when the external ssd device is removed, the internal ssd returns to normal reading speed and works fine, when the external ssd is connected both are slow!
The internal ssd together with external devices of smaller volume of data also performs well, only when I connect my external drive of 500gb the problem appears.
Trying to get another 500gb ssd to test with Prime 4.
The external ssd in question doesnât seem to have any problems, I formatted it and passed the library I have on rekorbox with the same data volume and on the cdj 2000nx and xdjrx2 it doesnât show slowness in reading.
That is largely irrelevant, you have 250gb of music so you should be using ExFAT as the formatting method, FAT32 is designed for smaller file size and limited partitions, its also an older format so wonât be as efficient.
I have had many, many problems with my playlists slow reading on my Prime 4, to the point where I donât make ANY changes to the sorting during a gig, because it takes too much time to sort. I have an enormous library (3TB) on a WD 4TB SSD hard drive (which I bought because I thought it would be the fastest). Any search I do takes 4-5 minutes, so I can only do one at the beginning of a song, and I have to have the next one lined up before I try, and even then, I find myself hurriedly cueing up a song in my phone because the hardware is still spinning.
What about trying to split your library across several drives? Then you can flip sources say for different parts of the evening?
If I had a library that size, Iâm using Serato period.
That thought did cross my mind, VDJ or Serato with a good quality laptop.
Right tool for the right job sort of mind set.
Or that trick where you import all tracks but only analyze those in playlists.
I appreciate the input, friends, but respectfully, I switched to a stand-alone to get away from the laptop. My whole goal is minimal, minimal, minimal for quick take-down. So no laptop for me.
And as for the splitting up the library, that would probably help as a workaround, but I have spent a lot of money for elite hardware, and Iâm hoping for solutions. But thank you!
Weâre more here to help you have alternatives that will get you back up and running asap unfortunately. I wouldnât be expecting a fix to engine OS arriving tomorrow so itâs best to explore some workarounds to minimise impact to your gigs/dj work.
