I got the idea, but that is not a beatmatch. The track is around the value and You still need to move the pitch fader anyway. This is usually by ear. If the track is not synchronised manually You end hp witha train wreck… and what about tracks that are off grid? Adjusting the pitch fader to their tempo will not do anything as it is still wrong tempo…
Chipping in here, I think it would be very useful to have user selectable data shown in the deck area. For instance at the moment (on the Prime 4 at least) we only have title displayed - no artist. It used to be displayed but was removed (strange decision).
I personally would like to see release year displayed. Every DJ has their own preference, so having the option available would be best, rather than being stuck with what Denon decide.
I totally disagree, I believe it could be better (or more suited to my taste), but it certainly works very nicely with lots of functionalities.
Obviously, and with any kind of setup, some time is needed to adjust.
Some people love some ui’s / softwares, some hate.
I personally hate Serato, but some people love it.
No UI will ever be loved by every single user.
Compared to older single line track info and no waveforms from some years ago, it is certainly great
the denon gui is generally terrible, the colour scheme is awful and the use of screen real estate couldnt be any worse if you tryed to make a bad layout.
are you living in some kind of dream world? you are using the bpm read out display to match the tracks and giving it the slightest of nudges to align the down beat. thats not mixing by ear but if you want to believe it is then good for you.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I for one use the bpm and key readout only to select a nearby track in my tracklist. Pitch fader is set by ear. That’s not a dreamworld. That’s how I did it in the nineties and that’s how I still do. It’s the reason I ditched the Traktor D2’s because of missing hand and ear work.
That is only your thinking… dreaming… what ever. I can still beatmatch without the bpm readout. I started off from vinyl, but why should I waste time? Specially when battle mixing…
Admittedly there’s no on-screen room left for a bloody decent recipe for pumpkin pie - but we’re DJs - we shouldn’t need a dozen pieces of info to slice and dice and filter and sort the next track by it being mathematically the right one. We should be picking the right track by us remembering how good or how similar (or hopefully both) it was, last time we played it. Not playing it because it’s the only one that is the same bpm, a compatible harmonic key (oh please), the right number of star rates, the correct record label, the year x , with a particular color waveform and the album art of a cute rubber duck
That’s your personal opinion. I’ve been DJing for maybe 15 years, 11 on pio decks, 2 on Traktor - I’m happy with SC5000’s GUI and workflow, and don’t miss Traktor at all - and for sure I don’t miss the ‘checking email’ attitude of djing with a computer
I agree. My case is that phone apps, even the most basic of them, can offer a little more of a robust experience than any flagship prime series can offer other than working dedicated hardware controls for that basic embedded engine os software.
Also it looks like that what the primes are stuffed with seems to be the equivalent specs to what phones can handle when running those apps.
So we can say that the primes are the best standalone hard/soft players on the planet for sure without a doubt. The thing is an iPad and a controller can now compete at a stand off range compared to anything else on the market.
Now what I can say is;
If an iPhone can do it then pro hardware which claims that it has specs similar to a modern phone should do it better cause it’s made just for djs right?
Couldn’t disagree more and this thread has become a prime example of the fact that it’s all a matter of personal preference.
The functionality the standalone Prime series provide to date, has been enough for the majority of users to put their laptop/software aside. Anything more than what we have will be a bonus. I don’t think that this should mean some logical stuff should be left off because the Prime setup is not a software so use your judgment in that…Something simple and possible like being able to rate your track on the deck should be added but I wouldn’t be heartbroken if the Serato Flip like feature didn’t come to Prime; if it’s that important to me, I can use Serato.
Enhancing a product is always good but I would not go as far as saying Prime needs to do everything Traktor or Serato can do in order to be successful. Both Prime and DJ software have their advantages and disadvantages like many things in this world. It’s a matter of perspective as to which is better for who.
