Why is Denon so bad now!

im really not happy with everything Denon atm

I have untold problems

im using prime go and and had prime 4 before

first problem was fx button not working when plugged into power , was advised to get it repaired, definitely a production problem.

then cant update firmware as won’t do over internet and crashes every time tried to do it over computer

the library keeps corrupting and having to wipe ssd drive( no problem with rekordbox, although have other spend hours reinstalling that as having to wipe Ssd

Now the library won’t even load onto SSD drive , the support is so slow after bot) im just about done with it and going to go back to Pioneer, I need something reliable and able to use , unfortunately Denon has proven to be a waste of time lately, I wonder if I can charge back for the hours lost on all this ?

If you’re that unhappy try making a class action lawsuit and see how that plays out for you.

Ok who is with me on this ?

I get it brother but you had all these issues yet you only made the effort to come here on the forum now - to tell us that you are switching to pioneer?

That is on you from my point of view, since your problems are not uncommon to what others had and solved with community help (other than hardware defects of course).

Who is gonna charge me back for time spent reading your post?

If only i had a nickel…

That is what manufacturer warranties are for. If a hardware problem is detected during the warranty period, use it to get the item repaired or replaced while you are still covered.

If you don’t, that is your own choice, and you cannot come back later to complain about the consequences.

Why can’t this be done via Wi-Fi? This is probably the first time I’ve seen someone complain about being unable to perform an update. Has the Wi-Fi never worked since the day you bought it? If there is a hardware issue for some reason, it is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty; you should make use of that rather than waiting for the coverage period to expire.

If your library keeps getting corrupted, it is likely because you are not properly ejecting your storage medium before removing it. This applies to both the computer and the device itself. The issue is therefore likely due to improper use of the product.

The same issues with Pioneer gear would lead to the same consequences. Hardware defects occur with Pioneer products too and can sometimes require a warranty return.

And if you yank out your drive without properly ejecting it first, you could run into the exact same corrupted database issues in Rekordbox.

Clean up your database and then export it again, making sure to eject your SSD properly. There is no reason why it shouldn’t work fine in that case.

“Why is Denon so bad now!”

Or in other words:

“My unit has some issues, so lets generalize that and assume everyone regards Denon DJ as bad now”

Well, nope. Both my Prime 4 and SC Live 4 show no issues in that regard, and both have served me well over the last years. Some minor hiccups especially after larger firmware or database changes can happen, but always got sorted out.

I had an issue the other day with the software lagging I think I was on the 5.0.1 version and had not used my decks a two or so weeks did the update been fine since.

I had one major library issue years ago but I think that was more to do with my laptop then Engine Dj since then no real issues Engine DJ could be faster but it has been stable database corruption sounds more likely to be user action as opposed to the software

I run my Engine dj and Denon dj devices since the first SC5000’s from 2017. Thru all denon gear I had and still have in my hads, not even one unit failed me ever. So all works perfectly fine on my end.

Data base issues so far as I seen are user errors. Data base can’t break it self when not touched, altered or when writing is done and you just pull out the drive from the usb. Then it’s totally on you that you break stuff without proper handling.

Apple’s FAT32 implementation in 2023 was a huge headache for MacOs users, and had nothing to do with user error. Strangely enough, it only surfaced with the use of Engine DJ and its implementation of SQLite.

I’ve also experienced situations where engine’s DB corrupted during a sync operation in the first years of Engine’s lifetime, and others have reported similar.

The software isn’t perfect and the engineers did a ton to mitigate against corruption, including use of transactions.

I never had issues on my mac os. Fat32 or exfat - all worked flawlessly and still does, even after moving from int to apple silicon.

I am so glad you never experienced the problem

When I used Engine DJ desktop (MacOS) there were instances where it said sync was done, but the exFAT USB attached drive would not eject. There were background copying tasks still executing and the drive would eventually free up (sometimes after quite a while).

The fault of all my other issues lies with me (accidentally) pulling an exFAT USB drive out of the computer without ejecting or an Engine player before it has completely shut down. The drive gets “corrupted” and then won’t read or repair on MacOS. Luckily, an old Windows system I have around has always been able to make a repair. Unlike APFS, exFAT has no journaling, so one has to handle with care.

I have this issue with non-Engine volumes on MacOS today on 26.5.2 (25F84).

Yes, I know, it’s exFAT, not Denon. Isn’t it a shame that there’s no robust, free, universal file system. Illuminate us if there is.

Well, party is over. OP hasn’t responded so closing this one.

LOL, true. The Solution is, it’s not so bad.

ZFS is free and robust, no?
