What gives enjine dj the right to delete

We all start from somewhere of not knowing =).

Feel free to ask questions about how this stuff works. These media players are specialized computers that run Linux and computers are inherently complicated machines that are built on abstractions starting from literal 1 and 0 representing on and off logic, and a crap ton of abstractions on top of that to enable humans to quickly tell these complicated machines what to do.

Even software engineers like myself are sometimes baffled at the complexities and apps that we humans are used to interfacing with are essentially built on a house of cards.

Exactly that!

Canā€™t stress this enough, but be sure to make regular backups: 2 backups on 2 different media on 2 different locations. ie, your own laptopā€™s internal drive is the working copy, an external drive stored at home (not your USB stick for playing out) is one backup and some cloud storage is the second. I see a lot of people using external drives, keeping me wondering if they backup that drive at allā€¦ And please backup both your database and music files, in a way you can remember where you have to put them backā€¦ Or better, backup your whole internal laptop driveā€¦

You are working with computers, and the slightest bug in MacOS or Engine DJ, your harddrives firmware, a faulty chip in your computer, user errors (do not underestimate that last one), and much more can cause your whole harddrive contents or parts thereof to disappear overnight. Backup your stuff, and be sure you know how to use your backupsā€¦

yup. i dont have cloud back up (overdue) but i got 4 clones of the main library and 1 clone of the export drive.

If you have a fire, earthquake or tornado, youā€™re still ******

But suppose you leave 1 copy at work, 1 at home, and use the third to rotate the copy you leave at work, so you always have a more or less recent copy both at home or at work

Well, maybe thatā€™s overkill (honestly, all of my backups are in my home too, one on a USB harddrive, one on a NAS), but the theory says 2 locations

Does it double the files or double the entries in the database?

Thatā€™s what cloud backups are for

I got bigger problems if there is a disaster lol.

1 is in my DJ bag as back up for gigs

1 in the office

2 at home

Ive upgraded my icloud plan and moved all my music to that, i havent updated it for a few months but the meat and bones of my collection are there so not too fussed, its definitely recoverable. I have a USB drive in my car for listening to tunes with all my core genre folders on it.

Plus there is the ability to ā€˜download againā€™ on itunes so that covers a massive part of my library too.

Iā€™m a relatively new Engine user and do it this way.

Use Synchredible to sync the tracks to my SD card in the same folder layout as my main drive.

Add them to Engine from the location on the actual SD card

Therefore the tracks can be easily replaced from the source drive if anything goes wrong and all you have to worry about is the database folder on the SD card. Just copy it over to your main PC for backup.

Simples.

Hi there all ,I found another issue, about 2 or 3 updates ago I was.told to reboot my mixstream pro , I did then when it opened up again i was told to scan qr code so i did and was told to sign in again, i cldnt remember password so reset it , to be short i done.that but basically had to give model number again so it basically has created me a new.engine dj profile. I was wondering for a while after that and noticed when using laptop the engine dj numark computer that is installed on laptop that was linked to profile i had 1st on dex b4 reset . I never had 2 enginedj fileicons.on laptop when i installed the forum app downloaded to phone then when i put laptop on and on my phone also ,another engine dj profile was basically created when i done the upgrade ,so on pc mode i have just bn using it for dropbox . I hope im making sense , my music is all installed in my Dropbox account so can i be advised how to go back to my original login and account it was a couple of yrs ago and saying this i have since used laptop for further upgrades . My laptop has run out of storage space saying dropbox using to much storage but im paying Ā£11 monthly for Dropbox account to store my music files in cloud ,if this makes sense cld anyone please tell me the best way to move either gob back to original profile if poss or if not and to late for that the best way to free storage and get back to just having 1 engine dj profile. I would appreciate if someone could help and give advise in best thing to do,and how to go about doing your best solution for me thanks

Hi Chris.

FIrstly ill start by saying that SD cards are notorious for being unreliable, so if you want to use one, just be aware its best to carry some kind of spare drive with you in case.

My first recommendation for a drive would be the following USB stick, this is ultra fast and reliable:

SanDisk 256GB Ultra Luxe USB Flash Drive, USB 3.2 Gen 1 + USB 3.0 capable up to 400 MB/s read speeds, Password protection, Data recovery software : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

if you do want an SD card, something like this would be good:

SanDisk 512GB Extreme PRO SDXC card, SD Card, V30 Memory Card, 4K UHD, up to 200 MB/s, SanDisk QuickFlow Technology, RescuePro Deluxe Data Recovery Software, UHS-I, Class 10, U3, V30 : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Both are 512GB so loads of space.

Thanks Stu i was.just thinking of sd card only as extra backup library storage but with mixstream pro you can only record your sets.if music is on usb drives and record on sd card only im sure .i know that they dont let younrecord your own music if stored on streaming cloud ,crazy you cant record your own stuff .i will add that drive to my amazon basket cheers @STU-C

Ahhh ok, yeah so that SD card can double up as spare storage (you can just drag your music onto it directly, rather than using Engine) then recording your sets too, as long as you have around 50gb space for recording it should be more than enough. I like to use the SD card for recording as tends to be a bit better speed wise, so you wont get the slow drive warning.

If i was in your shoes id have the USB as your engine collection, synced from the laptop, then i would have all the music manually stored on the SD card as another backup, but then also use the SD card for recording, whilst the USB is being used for DJing.

Just make sure you put all your music onto a 3rd hard drive and keep it somewhere safe, ultimate redundancy is having it at someone elseā€™s property, or in a locked drawer at work etcā€¦ it sounds stupid but if your house burnt down and all your drives were in that house then you lose all your music. The other option is purchasing some cloud storage and having it all on there too, i use iCloud and its about Ā£9.99 a month. I also have a USB stick in my car that doubles up as music for the car and also another backup.

If you want to record streaming there are ways to do it, with a few fairly simple and cheap options, thereā€™s loads of threads on here about it. Its not down to InMusic that one though, its the streaming partners who rule the roost with those rules unforunately, and im guessing its to stop piracy.

@STU-C, quick question mate as someone who knows about both engine & recordbox.

I presume if I download recordbox just to get a usb full of music analysed ready to take to a mates house for a mix itā€™s as simple as the engine os process yes?

Also the only version I can find which I believe is still free is 6.8.4 or are all versions free just to analyse & export a bunch of tunes.

Sorry mate, I no nothing about record box, the last time I took my tunes round they were being analysed on the fly which was painfully slow compared to engine.

Didnā€™t want to open up a new topic just to ask this question.

Ta mate.

Hiya Andy, yeah that free version is what you want, its been left over for those of us who dont want to pay.

It works largely the same as Engine, you put all your music in playlists, then head to the ā€˜export managerā€™ (i think its called that), select all the playlists you want to export then set it running. Try and use the aforementioned USB 3.2 drive as its much faster. Once the export has finished, right click on the USB drive in the export manager and hit ā€˜update collectionā€™ before you eject it.

Some other useful things to do is getting all your settings ready so it exports them too, that way when you plug your drive in, the Pioneer unit will update your preferences. Stuff like which type of key and waveform you want to use etc.

When you plug your rekordbox USB stick into an Engine OS unit, Engine OS will import the rekordbox database into Engine format. Yes, unfortunately that takes timeā€¦
