# The history of played tracks is not recorded.

why can’t the icons (History, Prepared) be seen when I’m playing through Engine Dj Desktop connection. I also noticed that the history of the played tracks is not recorded. My config: SC6000M (4.2.0), X1800, Mac Engine DJ 4.2.1

Hi Andrey,
welcome to the forum dude.
The icons don’t show because of a flaw in the SQL queries and/or code that is present in the Engine app that runs on the devices. The data for the images `is` there.
Regarding histories not being recorded, is this for streamed or purchased tracks (songs already on device)? Are you looking at the history in Engine DJ or on device?

there is no history on the device or on the computer

if i playing from USB all icons i see and history works properly

Im guessing its because the track is temporarily downloaded to the device to play it, then removed once its played. So the history wouldnt be on the desktop as the desktop isnt ‘playing’ it, and it wont be on the device as its not a core track stored on the device DB.
It might be worth raising it as a bug.

my music library storaged on the NAS. and each track in not temporary. But I was able to get tracks into the Engine database through symbolic links only.

and was forced to use symbolic links since there is no way to add tracks to the Engine database from network media

I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, but this is not a sanctioned method of managing music, and thus you ventured into the realm of `undefined` behavior. ☹
No need to explain why you’re using a mounted network volume, we can infer that.

Also, kudos to you for being able to put up with using Engine Desktop as a primary source for music. The way that method of playing music operates is so infuriating to me.

🫥 why this is not a sanctioned method of managing music? i’m only use my home network storage. It is useful for me because i can use my music library from any home device except my Denon sc6000 🙄

Yeah, that’s why you needed to use SymLinks to fool Engine into thinking it’s on a local storage device. Again, you don’t need to explain why you’re doing it.

What I’m referring to is playing music over WiFi from the desktop app, it is being temporarily ‘downloaded’ to the dj device so you can play it, it then gets removed when you eject it. That’ll be the reason you’re not seeing it in any history, the desktop software isn’t performance software so no history there, and the track never properly resides on the device, so won’t be captured there either.

the essence doesn’t change at all if I use tracks from a local disk, the history is also not written and the icons are also missing. All I have done is describe the full picture for an accurate understanding.

I get your use case, but Engine was designed to detect if music was added via a remote mount and even doesn’t export to NVME devices.
All I am saying is that you create a work around and now the software doesn’t operate as you wish. However if you use locally stored music, it should work. Maybe.
I say maybe because I never use Engine Desktop to DJ because I loathe how it’s implemented.

It was precisely with the aim of improving the Engine Dj software that I wrote about my problem. Otherwise, Engine Dj is much better than Recordbox
