Hello, Is there a way to sort playlists in Engine Dj Windows Desktop please? any plans to add it as new feature?
Hi, no it’s a manual sort only. You drag them up and down the left pane in the desktop app to organise them.
That is hard to accept as we are in 2025. I have many playlists. Labor work is impossbile i’m afraid.
It’s a bit of a faff (like everything in Engine) but you can export the playlist as an m3u, import it to VirtualDJ, sort it as you wish then export as a m3u then use itunes to import it back in to Engine.
There are workarounds but it’s not the easiest.
It might be hard to accept for you personally, but it’s also true of most other DJ software on the market.
Number one and two of the most popular software are also very limited when it comes to playlists, Serato works exactly the same way as Engine whereas Rekordbox allows you to ‘sort’ where it places them in Alphabetical order, there is then no way of reverting or changing that without doing it manually.
Then you have Djay Pro, that as far as im aware also doesnt allow it.
is there a request for development this feature?
Moin dear all,
reference is made to
If I understood you well, you only regard ENGINE DJ / sorting playlists and I just tested it.
Before testing, the list was sorted by # (up), Then I sortet the column “Title” (up). You can see it at the little triangle: Number 1. Then I sortet the column “BPM” (up) I touched the coulmn with " shift" and “mouse click” You can see it at the little triangle: Number 2.
The result you can see in the attachment
Furthermore pls. have a look at then ENGINE DJ manual, page 12, item “Track List”
Brgds BeatMaster
They were asking about sorting playlists, not tracks in a playlist
Moin @ErikMinekus and all concerned,
thanks for your advise.
If I’m not totally stupid at the moment, this will be possible as well:
- Touch the playlist with the mouse and move it up or down. It will be possibple and shown in both items (Engine Library and Drives)
Brgds BeatMaster
Before sorting / moving
After sorting / moving (pls watch “D_4_cool_down)”:
@BeatMaster hope youre good man.
That was also my suggestion, but I think they are looking for some kind of auto sort function on the playlist tree. It looks like VDJ offer this, and Rekordbox offer a basic and irreversible option for it.
Moin @STU-C,
thanks for your explanation:
Could you pls be so kind, as to create a manual for an old school DJ (72 yo), containing the workdescription of a now a days DJ
Enjoy the day and brgds BeatMaster
Hi, new here but i am having trouble dragging more than one song into a single playlist. Each time i add a second track, the first one vanishes.
