SC5000 USB loads fast on one player but slow on the linked one

Hey everyone, quick question for other Denon SC5000 users.

I love these players and use them every week, but I want to check something I have been noticing with USB load times when using the link.

I am using SanDisk Extreme Pro USBs formatted exFAT. Each one has about 90GB on it. When I plug a USB directly into a player, it loads the library really fast, usually in about 3 to 8 seconds. But when the other player pulls that same USB over the Ethernet link, it usually takes around 25 to 30 seconds. One time it even took almost a full minute to load when the library was bigger.

Once the library is loaded everything is totally fine. Browsing, searching, waveforms, all smooth. The only annoying part is the wait when I swap USBs. It feels like the linked player has to re read the whole library again every time.

I have already tried different Ethernet cables and I am using the rear USB ports. The USBs themselves are fast. I also read that the link port on the SC5000 is limited to 100 Mbps, so I am wondering if this is just how these players behave with larger libraries.

Yup. it’s normal behavior :frowning: .

This is why each of my SC6000Ms have their own internal SSDs, and I sync each of these with my main music media before playing.

that’s what I was planning on doing with sd cards since I don’t have internal ssd :frowning: but didn’t want to waste money if I didn’t need to. Thank you!

I use a 256gb sd card with my 2 players linked to my home network via cable and don’t have that problem at all. I do see a “lag” for search and load times when I use my larger library from my laptop linked to both players on the same network. Maybe it’s the size of your library?

It has to to with the number of records in a playlist.

You can try reducing loading times on the linked player by optimizing and cleaning the database in Engine Desktop. Also, control the size of your track artwork by limiting it to 600x600 pixels.

Larger artwork is more data-intensive and therefore takes longer to load on the linked player.

Images don’t load until a playlist begins streaming. That the process that takes the longest in linked players. Images will stream synchronously after the records are rendered.

Remote library works fantastic. I’m more referring to when I have physical storage plugged in one player even if the library is smaller IE 10gb, the plugged in player is very quick and the linked player is two to three times slower.

I’ve tried that. Even with a tiny library I notice it’s two to three times slower. Not a deal breaker but something I noticed.

Is this not an issue with competition’s players?
