I have just bought a new PC. I copied the files from the C:\Users<me>\Music\Engine Library\Database 2 folder and my music files remain in the same external drive as I used on the old PC to load them into Engine DJ. On the new laptop, virtually all of my tracks (and I have 70,000+) are shown in red, with a few random tracks not. What have I done wrong? Am I going to have to rebuild my entire library and playlists? Help!
Did you try just plugging in the external drive to the new PC without copying the
Usually, if using external on the old PC, you should not have to copy the c/db because the external uses a seperate engine folder (usually automatically created and can be found in the root directory of the external drive)
-
To test, delete the C/engine library of the new PC and plug in the external drive.
-
start up engine on the new pc
what happens?
Also, look at the “Directory” column in Engine DJ and see where it thinks the files are located. Make sure your remote drive is mounted there.
I still have the same problem, as it has managed to overwrite the .db file in the external drive as it was already plugged in.
How do I mount a specific drive in my library?
Sorry to be so ignorant!
When you plug in the external to the old pc, does it still work?
Mounting is a Mac thing. On PC try and make sure the external drive has the same letter allocated to it as it had on the old PC.
Yes. Look at the Directory column in your Engine Library display and see what letter the drive has. If the Directory column isn’t there right click on the column header and add it.
Thanks. Yes, everything does work on the old PC, so I’ve copied the files (including the backup folder) to the new PC. I had the same problem initially, but after restoring the backup that I’d made on the old PC, it all works perfectly. Thanks everyone for your help: I had a vision of spending the next week having to re-do everything manually!
