So I started experiencing random reboots about a year ago, the 5000 would just stop mid track and do a full reboot or it would freeze and not respond to anything other than pulling the power cable out. I tried factory reset, rolling back to an earlier version of engine and all that. erased my library off my USB SSD, started everything from scratch again, and ultimately gave up on it due to that absolutely unreliable behaviour.
I’ve just recently got it out again, updated to 4.3.4 in the hopes that issues have likely been fixed, and have started with a clean SSD again, and it’s still done the same thing…
I can’t trust it for playing out AT ALL. Just tried again, and get two tracks into a set, and it reboots.
thanks, i have tried both a usb stick and an ssd drive, both of which used to work flawlessly. The restarts also happen when playing off the sample library with no usb storage plugged in so I think it has to be something else!
Well, I’d say that if the situation isn’t fixed by updating, then there’s a good chance the cause is hardware-related.
Given that it’s an SC5000, a device that’s a few years old now, I’d start by replacing the CPU thermal paste, which is probably completely baked on, and see if the problem persists.
However, be aware that if you’re not comfortable disassembling DJ equipment, it’s best to entrust your unit to a qualified professional.
