I got rid of stuttering on Engine 5.0.2 on my Prime 4+

I have about 24000 songs loaded on my 1TB SSD in my Prime 4+ and had stuttering since upgrading to 5.x I also have a LC6000 and it was worse when using that over long mixes 2+ hours.

Someone on here recommended checking your album art and sure enough I had over 10GB of album art so I used a third party tool (Lexicon) to remove 100% of my album art and then created a custom 600x600 logo.png file based on the instructions on this forum and boom. No more stuttering when loading ANY track on my Prime 4+

I urge anyone who is experiencing stuttering to check your album art and if needed remove it and test because it solved my stuttering issues.

Thanks for the recommendations on checking album art. I wonder if the file handles over a large period of time cause slowdowns as well when dealing with a large amount of album art.

This is clearly a bug. It might be worth flagging to the devs, though honestly, the fact that someone here recommended this workaround just confirms what I suspected: there’s a big gap between what users actually need and what the Denon team is ever going to address

I do not think so, this dropped now:

Proof denon is listening.

This is a well documented issue with album art for some years now. Rekordbox also had it. They just fixed it by forcing all album arts to resolution of 500x500.

In engine there is no forcing resolution, you need to do it yourself or delete the album art totally.

Engine DJ has for a long time resized the artwork and stored it in the database though, and since 5.0 it’s a stored as a 256x256 JPG in the Engine Library/Artwork folder. That’s what should be displayed in Engine OS, so maybe the issue was with jumping over large tag data to get to the audio data, idk :person_shrugging:

Engine didn’t store resized art work in exported media. It was always exported in original size.

Not even in the database? I understand it doesn’t touch the audio files, I wouldn’t want it to, but they must be storing the artwork in their own location for this reason?

Yes, artwork got detached from the audio. But it was still original size till now.

I still have a bunch of examples when really useful things are being neglected

Just because a suggestion that you’ve made (or voted for) hasn’t been implemented doesn’t mean they’re not listening.

But, go ahead, let’s see your little list of :-

While we’re all enjoying 5.0.3 … go on.

You can continue enjoying a piece of software that I’d rather not use like at all, and I’ll continue express myself in a free forum

Go for it -lol

But don’t forget to show us all that little list of yours…
