New to Denon world since i purchased the Rane S1 a few months ago, Are there frequent updates to resolve issue in the Engine DJ desktop software? the software has so many missing common features and the sync manager is horrible compared to other software out there, kinda regretting jumping on board so quick but love the Rane unit and hoping the software to prepare the music comes along quickly.
Yes there are updates when required. Bug fixes etc.
What do you mean by frequent? Once a week? Once a month? 
What issues?
Missing common features? Such as? What other software are you comparing it to? Bear in mind it’s not performance software like Serato, VirtualDJ, Traktor, Rekordbox and the like.
What do you mean by this? Engine DJ hasn’t changed much in the past few years.
For me, the following are missing in EDJ Desktop :
The ability to group all files that have turned red (whether deleted or moved). This would avoid having to scroll through the entire library to find the files that have turned red.
A column indicating the bitrate of our files. This would allow us to replace files that are lower than 320kbps (for example), and re-encode them if we have the files physically on a CD or vinyl record.
The option to sort Hot Cues chronologically or not.
A continuous playback option would allow us to play a playlist to familiarize ourselves with the content.
True file relocation by performing a complete search on both local storage and external storage.
I may have forgotten one or two features.
But I think what’s mentioned above is already very important (for me).
exactly it hasn’t been updated and needs to be, lol
it needs fixes to sync manager and simple things like a keyboard shortcut to search collection (all)
every few months to add common features and fix bugs
- no way to quickly use a keyboard shortcut or map keys to do simple things like jump to collection to search, cant drag more then 1 song out of the program to a folder ot another program, again, basic features all software can do pretty much
- sync manager makes the flash drive your master library making it impossible to cleanup/remove tracks from a local playlist if you don’t use them anymore, once you plug the flash drive in, it moves the tracks BACK to the main libraries playlists. yes you can plug the flash drive in to organize but then when i plug in the backup flash drive to sync, once again, the tracks get moved back in
- everytime you sync you have to wait for a box to appear to say “yes, i want to sunc and make changes” they need to have an option to not show that again so you can click sync and walk away, not have to click sync and wait minutes for a confirmation box to appear
plenty more but they are already in feature suggestions, that’s just a few main ones
comparing it to Rekordbox export mode and sync manager is night and day, Denon needs to work on it since the Rane unit is becoming the new big controller for them reliant on organizing and exporting from Engine
Well , check those feature have or haven’t been asked for already - if they have then add one of your votes to that suggestion
If they haven’t, sit your wishlist into individual requests and people may add their vote to your idea.
did that all months ago, did not think it would take long for simple updates like adding a search for all shortcut thats requested years ago, lol
Well there are lots of things requested years ago (LOL) both for the software and the hardware products. A request is just a request, not a demand that Denon have to add it, or a guarantee that it will be added.
There’s no document that says “We the undersigned agree to add all requested features on a regular schedule”…
My votes are all tied up in old requests, made years ago. They’ve not been added, but that doesn’t stop me using the kit, which I bought on the strength of what it did at the time.

The search says there are 932, but I counted in the mid-700s. There are many redundant requests.
I feel like some will never happen due to technical hurdles. E.g., stacked waveforms between players.

As mentioned in another “boo hoo there’s no updates” thread recently, since late Jan we’ve had this whole Windows MIDI 2.0 thing going on, and inMusic products were badly affected by it. Pete at Microsoft said that inMusic were working with him on this (hence delays in other things, presumably) but now we’re coming out the other side.
MS have said the fixes are rolling out, so hopefully inMusic can get back to doing other things.

I agree with you here. I once published a long laundry list of things that i would consider bugs, and they were never prioritized.
I learned to accept the following: Their product, their house, their rules, their priorities. Full stop.
You can complain till your face is blue, and they will still prioritize what is in their product roadmap. You can argue for or against the above. It just is.
happens on all sides i guess no matter who you use, the gear is great though
It happens with just about all software companies. MacOS is riddled with stupid QA issues, as is the software platforms for both of my cars (different manufacturers).
