# First peek at the nextgen Prime4 G2!

Omnisource isn’t available yet because software developers like Serato, Virtual DJ, and Djay need to update their software to enable this support. Judging by how long it’s taking Atomix to implement this feature in Virtual DJ—even though they’re usually so fast—it certainly suggests the process is more complex than it looks.
As for LC6000 support, it remains a mystery to me why the engineers who designed the G2 didn’t include two USB-A ports on the back to allow for a direct connection of two units, without needing a USB-A to USB-C adapter or an extra hub. The LC6000 is a product from their own brand, yet it seems like they didn’t even consider this during the design phase.
In my opinion, this is one of those odd design choices, much like the removal of the network port. Adding an extra USB-A port and a LAN port certainly wouldn’t have cost much more.
Some might argue that you could connect the LC6000 units simultaneously—one at the back and the other via the USB-A port on the top of the device—but that strikes me as odd, too; it deprives you of a USB-A port for storage devices, and it doesn’t look very professional.

Then again, maybe it’s a signal to attract those fake TikTok, Instagram, and festival DJs—the ones who are all about appearances and play DJ sets more to rack up views than out of a genuine love for music and DJing.
Details like that are rarely included by accident in a promotional video.
In any case, I don’t see the unit’s finish lasting very long—it’s bound to get scratched up all over—nor the pad coating, if someone uses it with fingernails that long.

I think it’s still Lexan and prints are not on the surface but underneath. Can’t rule out someone’s fingernails, but Lexan is very durable.

NO! You’ve got that entirely backwards. The software devs are waiting on inMusic (both Rane and Denon DJ at this point) to release firmware updates and/or approve native support.
Algoriddim have repeatedly said that Djay Pro is not available for the System One yet because they’re waiting for a Firmware update.
Atomix completed beta testing of the System One for VDJ some time ago, and have also said they’re now waiting on Rane.
I’m in close contact with Atomix staff and there’s info I can’t publish here, but the ball is in inMusic’s court. Don’t blame the DJ software guys.

That’s a piece of information I didn’t have, and it changes things a bit.
In that case, I assume it’s likely a deliberate strategy on InMusic’s part to encourage and foster the discovery and use of EngineOS, in order to gain new users within that ecosystem.

Lexan appears to be extremely impact-resistant, yet it remains susceptible to scratches, based on what I have read about it.

I think there could be one more dj software that is late to the game a bit - Traktor. Looking on the development time it takes for a company like Denon or Ali Temu to release a product with built in third party software support out of the box, Traktor aquisition might be slowing this down. It looks like Denon would like to have all software supports ready at the same time in one update maybe. So I think, that the waiting time is justified by late adding Traktor to the game. But that is just my guess based on observations.

just got mine, coming from SC live 4 and I would say it is for me a real nice forward 🙂 specially start/cue buttons are a game changer
I have only two question or maybe feature request (if Denon read…) :
- how to change the fader curve ? by default it is ramp i would like cut EDIT : ok found in the mixer settings, going using the equalizer button but maybe also another way to go into that menu)
- Is there a way to disable the big circle led on jog? On some small aera I think it is too much and would like to be able to disable it when I want.
Otherwise so far so good !

PK probably a good idea not to believe everything that you hear. The development teams of both inMusic and of the software partners are very actively working on Omni Source support, System One, then Prime 4G2. Very very very actively and it’s not easy. If we still had just controller mode that no one liked, it would be easy. But fully integrated solution requires a decent effort from all sides. This is why we did Serato first. At this point there’s practically nothing left for inMusic (unless the current testing finds more issues) to do and still work to be done by the partners.

I’ll ad that for almost 30 years Rane uses Lexan and those mixers that are 15 years old still look brand new. Walk in the the booth and look at that mixer… Oils and salts from hands destroy silkscreen. Lexan is back printed, it’s like the extra glass you by for your Phone.

This one can’t be fully switched off or dimmed. As small workaround, you could change\* its (deck) colors to the dark blue, which is the least bright one. Though I never felt them being too bright, honestly.
Offtopic, but I am team cyan + orange decks, obviously 😎
(\*these little details about customization is an aspect I really appreciate about the Prime gear)

As I already stated you can‘t switch it off.
In On-Air mode the active decks switch to white.
Ring colors only turn off for external sources (i.e. line-in), as it always was and makes sense.
