Feature Suggestiont: Activity Log During Copying / Processing

A small UX suggestion for Engine DJ:

During long operations, the user would feel much more confident and probably a little more hopeful if there were some visible indication that something is actually happening.

Even a simple activity log showing messages such as:

“Copying this file…”

“Writing database information…”

“Updating metadata…”

“Processing track…”

it would make a huge difference.

It wouldn’t even need to show an accurate percentage or estimated completion time. Just seeing filenames, operations, or messages continuously scrolling ,even very quickly, would immediately give the impression that Engine is still working and that I’m not simply spending my life staring at a black screen wondering whether the computer has frozen.

From a UX point of view, some visible feedback during these operations would greatly reduce uncertainty and make the whole process feel much safer.

And now, i really hoping that my computer hasn’t actually frozen and that I’m not currently staring at a completely dead black screen, I’ll say goodbye.

..or in exporting line

I feel your need  , but I’d rather realize it with a scrollable textbox than a statusbar. You won’t have any chances to read the informations otherwise.

If you get positive resonance to your idea, you could use the template and create a new feature request. That’s in this region of the forum

Happy weekend :victory_hand:

also a good method but at least we don’t really care about the data ..and it was freezed ..i’m still waiting

I don’t quite understand your request.

If you’re referring to the export process, there’s already a progress bar—though it can sometimes take a long time depending on what you’re exporting.

If you mean the Engine DJ desktop software, there’s a bar at the bottom right that shows any active background processes or tasks.

And if you’re talking about stems, there’s a bar at the bottom that tracks progress from left to right.

So, I’m not entirely sure what you mean… could you explain a bit more? Thanks.

…which if you click on it, shows the Job Monitor with text information. It does raise the question - why doesn’t the stems processing info use the Job Monitor? Isn’t that the point of it? :man_facepalming:

I do think the “quit box” needs some work though. When I click YES (with Backup selected) it sits there for ages seemingly frozen, with no feedback as to what’s happening.

Lol i didn’t realize you can click to open job monitor…

I think @NooZ is looking for some similar option to monitor the sync-process…

I think he mocked it in the picture…

After seeing that fancy job monitor, i adjust my suggestion.

Not a simple Textfield with Scrollbar, it has to be good lookin like the job monitor.

In my experience: sometimes the export process is slow, sometimes it’s fast and sometimes it just freezes. And there is no way to determine which of the three options i’ll encounter today. So a simple “:skull:i’m not dead yet:skull:” message, beyond the progress bar, will help a lot!!!

Right… I get it. Usually, I export and then go watch Netflix.

Sorry maybe I didn’t explain myself very well in English, I’m Italian. I’m referring specifically to the export process and the long export times. In my particular case, I’m a new Engine DJ user, so I’m creating my first USB drives. On top of that, the latest public release on Windows 11 was actually giving me some mysterious errors (a .dll blocked in my case).

So maybe, when Engine DJ is working properly, the export process is normally much faster and the progress bar alone is perfectly sufficient. The important thing is that something visibly keeps moving and not by one pixel every half an hour

That’s why I thought a more detailed activity monitor showing what Engine DJ is actually doing at that moment could be useful. It would help the user understand whether the process is genuinely progressing or whether they’re simply waiting in vain.

Don’t worry, that sort of thing happens with translations…

It’s true, sometimes you don’t know if the PC has frozen or what’s going on, but the fact is that exporting a lot of songs usually takes a while.

The best thing to do is just let it work and go do something else, haha… just be patient and trust the process.
