has anyone an idea what adapter to use, to connect my PrimeGO to my new JBL Xtreme 5 ?
You’d probably find the answer quickly if youd asked it to Gemini.(Most of the time it’s a RCA to aux cable). But know the latency of the speaker is so high you can’t use it for best matching and other forms of performance. But it’s a cool way to enjoy your tunes on the beach or Backyard.
thanks Ben, but RCA to AUX is easy, but the JBL has no AUX in, just USB C, so the JBL is expecting a digital signal. Gemini was not very helpful.
And that usb-c connector is for power (charging), not for signal.
So no, you cannot connect your JBL to any kind of mixer or controller using a usb cable.
What you can do is connect it using bluetooth if your controller supports BT output. Due to BT latency and JBL DSP processing, the sound coming from the speaker will be quite delayed and you will not be able to beatmatch listening the speaker.
sorry, its possible to use the USB C port also for audio, not only for charging. please check → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQbbqd4UBWo
unfortunately they are using a digital device (notebook) as source.
Ok, has a built in audio interface for laptops to use.
Useless for DJs because as mentioned:
you cannot connect your JBL to any kind of mixer or controller using a usb cable
Controllers and mixers don’t use external audio interfaces.
You need a different speaker, one with AUX input in the form of 3.5mm jack socket or RCA input and with minimal DSP or a way to bypass it if you want to use it for DJing.
You might be able to get somewhere with a line input to USB-C dongle like this:
thanks ! but does it work with other vendors than Sonos ?
I checked it, the adapter is only working for Sonos, but thanks again !
There are other similar things on the market. That was just an example.
How did you check it? By asking Sonos? I suspect they would say whatever’s necessary to make you buy their speakers…
In this case they are correct: Sonos designed their speakers to accept analog audio, the little cable is just an physical adapter to route the signal to specific usb-c pins.
JBL does not seem to have that, instead it acts as a sound interface for your OS with “zgmicro” as the device name (probably the name of the built in DAC chip/controller).
What is funny is that JBL does not even support playback of mp3/wav/flac from a USB-C memory stick.
For the wired usb-c connection from an analog source to work, I think you would need a device in the path - smth that can accept a analog signal AND use a external DAC as sound interface.
Easiest choice would be a mobile device with usb-c and 3.5mm port AND an app that can sample live external audio coming through the 3.5mm jack.
And then you would still need to deal with:
-
latency from the phone+app
-
latency on the JBL due to DSP
Think it would be much easier/better to get a BT transmitter for PrimeGO. Or sell JBL and buy smth with aux inputs. Or sell PrimeGo and get PrimeGo+ that has BT output.
Prime Go also has BT output
But the latency…
thanks ! I´ll try if this interface will work → ESI UGM192 – Musikhaus Thomann
sorry, its in German.
If not, I´ll switch over to SOUNDBOKS MIX, this one has a 3,5mm jack, but is much bigger.
It will not work, that is not a standalone device that can that kind of audio transformation.
You are right - I thought only + devices got this, my bad.
Then it’s a no brainer to just connect using BT output from Go. And if latency is an issue then JBL was not a good choice.
